BEATLES UK, Abbey Road, rare UK ‘Cloud’ sleeve.

PCS 7088, Apple record labels.

A rare UK sleeve variant, circa early / mid 1970s, featuring:

1. the front sleeve photo features ‘clouds’ in the sky !, where ‘regular’ sleeves of this album shows a clear blue sky !. Could this be the original, ‘unedited’ photo from the original film negative ! taken back in August 1969 ?, was this original photo edited to show a deep blue sky above the famous pedestrian crossing ?. Only a very small number of these ’cloud’ sleeves seem to have been printed !,

2. the sleeve features a wider spine, that measures 2 mm in width,

3. side two, the record has an unusual matrix of, ‘2 U’,

4. the record features earliest, ‘mothers’ being, ‘1’ and ‘1’,

5. the track ‘Her majesty’ appears printed on the record label and plays on the record but this track does not appear printed on the rear of the sleeve !,

6. comes with its original, ‘Important notice’, EMI records Ltd, inner sleeve.

CONDITION:

THE MAIN SLEEVE: is in excellent+ condition, the sleeve is fully laminated. The excellent glossy laminate has NO ‘thumb’ creases to the front and has just one to the rear. The laminate is free from any ‘indentations’. The two opening edges of the sleeve have remained clean for their age. The ‘thicker’ spine measures 2 mm in width and is in excellent+ condition, it is clean and white in colour and all of the text on the spine is clear to read. Theres NO pen writing, splits, tears, stains, stickers or sticker residue on the sleeve.

THE INNER SLEEVE: is in excellent condition and is the original period white, ‘Important notice’, EMI records Ltd sleeve. The two opening edges are in excellent condition and have remained clean and unworn. Theres NO pen writing, tears, stickers or sticker residue on the inner sleeve. There is a slight split to one of the side edges and to the bottom edge.

THE RECORD: each side is in near excellent condition. The record has remained very dark and glossy.

The matrix are: YEX 749 - 4 and YEX 750 – 2U (unusual),

The mother / stampers are: ‘1 P’ and ‘1 PO, earliest ‘mothers’,

THE AUDIO: side one plays excellent++, a near perfect audio, it plays with excellent quiet grooves. Side two plays overall, near excellent, it plays with some ‘ticks’ on the introduction to track one, visually I cannot ‘see’ why this should be, maybe a professional clean would improve this issues, the rest of side two plays with some ‘ticks’ heard here and there, but in general side two plays with excellent quiet grooves. The record lays flat on the turntable.

THE LABELS: each label is in MINT condition. The labels are free from any pen writing, stickers or sticker residue.
