Description
BEATLES UK – Please Please Me LP, third press, GOLD sleeve.
PMC 1202 – black and yellow Parlophone labels.
A UK album in original condition, featuring:
1. the main card sleeve is a very first press Mono sleeve that the Black and Gold first press copies came in, ie it is made from very thick card and the photographers credit is printed over to the front, bottom, right corner,
2. the sleeve has an unusual blue colour ‘hue’ to it !, see photo, the sleeve for sale is the image to the left in the photo, these sleeves usually have a brown tint colour to them,
3. the labels are a third UK pressing, WITHOUT the text ‘recording first published 1963’,
4. on side two of the record, the original mother / stampers engraved onto the ‘run groove’ have been crossed out !, they appear to read the letters ‘R O’. Instead the letters ‘A T’ appears engraved below,
5. each label has an unusual ‘rough’ finish around the spindle hole, while the rest of the label has a much smoother finish to the labels surface,
6. unusually there are NO tax code letters embossed onto the labels !.
CONDITION:
THE MAIN SLEEVE: is in near excellent condition, the front is laminated. The sleeve is made by E J Day. There are NO thumb nail creases to the very glossy front of the sleeve. The spine is in excellent++ condition and has remained a brilliant fresh white in colour, all the text is clear to read. The rear of the sleeve has remained a brilliant fresh white in colour. The rear of the sleeve has the period tri flipback design, the flipbacks are all excellent, solid and well stuck down. There are NO tears, pen writing, stains, stickers or sticker residue on the sleeve. To the top edge, there is a 20mm split from the opening edge and on the bottom edge there is a 130mm split from the opening edge. The bottom edge split has been repaired with ‘magic tape’, ie a tape that does not discolour or fall off in time.
THE INNER SLEEVE: is in excellent condition and is the original ‘Use Emitex’ sleeve. An excellent sleeve that has remained very a clean, fresh white in colour. There are NO stains, splits, pen writing, tears, stickers or sticker residue.
THE VINYL: is in near excellent condition. The vinyl has remained very dark and glossy and appears not to have been played very much. It is made from the period, thick, heavy vinyl.
The matrix are: XEX 421 – 1N and XEX 422 – 1N,
The Mother / Stampers are: ‘2 M T’ and ‘1 2 A T’.
THE AUDIO: side one plays excellent, side two plays near excellent, as I did hear some light ‘ticks’ on the intro. to track four, for one minute. The vinyl lays flat on the turntable.
THE LABELS: are in excellent++ condition and appear to have received little play. Unusually there are NO letters embossed around the spindle holes. The labels are free from any pen writing, stickers or sticker residue.
