Description

In this auction:

  • Original U.S. early 1964 RARE CAPITOL RECORDS PROMOTIONAL ALBUM (LP) entitled “GREAT NEW RELEASES FROM THE SOUND CAPITOL OF THE WORLD”

  • It is additionally entitled “BALANCED FOR BROADCAST FEBRUARY 1964”.

  • This is a PROMOTIONAL LP THAT WAS ISSUED IN FEBRUARY OF 1964.

  • The Capitol Records catalog number for this LP is PRO 2556/PRO 2557.

  • The LABELS have the printing:

FOR PROMOTIONAL USE ONLY NOT FOR SALE

  • The bottom of the REAR COVER has the printing:

This is a Promotional album designed for programming, it is not for sale

  • As you know probably PROMOTIONAL RECORDS were pressed in VERY LIMITED QUANTITIES and were only released by record companies to the radio stations and DJs for air-play and/or to music stores/departments for in-store play. PROMO RECORDS like the LP in this auction were NOT available to the general public to purchase. For those reasons, they tend to be valued more highly by vinyl collectors.

  • This LP was issued to promote new artists and new LP releases from Capitol Records in January and February of 1964.

  • THIS LP IS VERY SIGNIFICANT BECAUSE IT WAS THE VERY FIRST PROMOTIONAL RECORD ISSUED BY CAPITOL RECORDS CONTAINING BEATLES SONGS TO PROMOTE THE BEATLES FIRST LP ON CAPITOL, “MEET THE BEATLES” !

  • This PROMOTIONAL LP includes the songs, “THIS BOY” and “IT WON'T BE LONG” from the “MEET THE BEATLES” LP that was issued by Capitol on January 20, 1964. From the track listings on the rear cover and on the labels, you will see that these songs are tracks 3 and 4 on Side 2.

  • ON THE REAR COVER IS AN IMAGE OF THE "MEET THE BEATLES" ALBUM COVER.

  • It has a GREAT PROMOTIONAL HYPE ON THE REAR COVER BESIDE THE IMAGE OF THE “MEET THE BEATLES” LP COVER:

Here they are…the group that set England afire with their multi-million seller success! Get ready for the hottest thing you’ve heard yet—the wild rocking sounds of The Beatles serves, on a silver platter, just what teenage America wants.”

  • THE COVER IS IN VERY NICE VG+ CONDITION. The LP has a lightly-textured slick on the front cover. As you can see, the front cover image is NICE and CLEAN. The rear cover is also NICE and CLEAN with some light to moderate aging (foxing). The cover has NO writing or other marks, NO stains, NO tears and NO ring wear. In the middle of the top seam is a 2-inch repaired seam split. There is also a very small ¾ -inch un-repaired seam split on the bottom seam at the opening. Also on the top seam near the spine is about 1-inch of flaking/cracking where a little bit of adhesive was applied to stop the flaking. There are tiny to very small pushes on all four corners with light wear on three corners. The corner at the bottom of the opening has the previously mentioned very small split with some “balding” and very slight “feathering”. The SEAMS and SPINE are NICE and STRONG (aside from the 2 small areas of the top seam and bottom seam already mentioned).

  • THE VINYL IS IN VERY STRONG VG+ CONDITION. There are just some very light/slight surface hairlines/scuffs that kept me from grading the vinyl Near Mint. (None of these are “feel-able” at all and, really, not even close to being “feel-able”.)

  • Also included is what I believe is the ORIGINAL EARLY CAPITOL RECORDS PAPER INNER SLEEVE from 1964. I believe it is the original inner sleeve, because it has the same wording that is printed on the front cover that refers to Capitol Records as “THE SOUND CAPITOL OF THE WORLD”. This paper inner sleeve has a few small/very small tears at the top opening,

a couple of small tears at the bottom of the side that pictures other Capitol LPs and a 6 ½-inch split at the center of the bottom edge.

This CAPITOL RECORDS PROMOTIONAL LP is DEFINITELY a “MUST HAVE” for any Beatles vinyl collection!!!
