''The Beatles'' is the ninth official album by The Beatles, a double album released in 1968 .
It is most often referred to as '''The White Album'', as it has no text other than the band's name on its plain white sleeve, designed by pop artist Richard Hamilton. Originally planned to be titled A Doll's House, the album is often hailed as one of the major accomplishments in popular music!!!..
With this album, each of the four band members began to showcase the range and depth of his individual songwriting talents and styles that would be carried over to their eventual solo careers. For one thing, some Beatles began recording some of their songs individually, a heretofore unheard-of practice. For another, some songs that the individual Beatles were working on during this period eventually were released on solo albums (John Lennons "Jealous Guy"; Paul McCartney's "Junk" and "Teddy Boy"; George Harrison's "Not Guilty"). The album is also marked by experimentation with different musical genres!!
The album was recorded between 30 May 1968 and 14 October 1968, largely at Abbey Road Studios, with some sessions at Trident Studios. Although productive, the sessions were sometimes fractious and exacerbated the growing tensions within the group. In the difficult seven months before the sessions, Brian Epstein died, and they had their first artistic and commercial failure in the Magical Mystery Tour television film, and a long trip to India to study Transcendental Meditation which ended in disillusionment for John Lennon. Concurrent with the sessions, they were also in the midst of launching their new multimedia business corporation Apple Corps, which would lead to increased conflict within the group as the year progressed. These sessions also marked the first appearance in the studio of Lennon's new girlfriend and artistic partner Yoko Ono, who would thereafter be a constant presence. Prior to Ono's appearance on the scene, the individual Beatles had been very insular during recording sessions!!!.
Often McCartney would record in one studio while Lennon would record in another at the same time, using different engineers. At one point in the sessions, George Martin, whose authority over the band in the studio had waned, spontaneously left on vacation, leaving Chris Thomas in charge of producing the sessions. The studio tensions carried over into the Beatles' subsequent album and film project in early 1969, ultimately released as Let It Be. The Beatles' recording engineer Geoff Emerick quit during these sessions out of disgust!!!.
These sessions also marked the change from 4-track to 8-trak recording, although in essence this had started in 1966 and 1967 with the technique of 'bouncing down' several tracks onto one, to free up new tracks for recording!!!.
While Abbey Road Studios had yet to install an 8-track machine that had supposedly been sitting in a storage room unpacked for months (evidently because EMI could not afford its power cord) the Beatles decided to out-source to the more updated Trident Studios!!!.
Starr's temporary departure!!
At one point during the recording sessions for the album, Starr suddenly walked out of the studio, feeling his role was minimized compared to that of the other members Lennon, McCartney and Harrison pleaded with Starr to return, and after two weeks he did. In Starr's absence, McCartney played drums on "Back in the U.S.S.R." and "Dear Prudence." Upon his return, he found his drum kit decorated with red, white and blue flowers, a welcome-back gesture from Harrison!!!!!!

The vinyls
Visual inspection of both vinyls. Both lie flat on the turn table. They have retained their original glossy sheen from new!!!!!! And look superbe!!!!!
Please note! I have played all four sides track for track and I would class my self as highly criticle and have given my honest opinion on the quality of the audio (which i rate at the very top through out) Points to note! I have many many original UK pressings of the white album collected over a period of 35 years! This original mono produces a really deep bassey audio which beleive me can not be surpassed on the later pressings! Many factors i have found contibute to this awesome sound, mainly the original thicker materials used and the fact that these are very (very) early stampers that make all the difference!!! Can not be surpassed!!!
Points to note! I have played all four sides two times prior to listing on a top system at very loud volume! This album has been in my collection for at least 30 years and has been stored in a case with the vinyls seperated from the sleeves and cover! This is how I have always stored my records!!
Below i have given my honest opinion on the audio quality as I heard it! Please note! I follow (no) other codes or practices when describing or grading my records\vinyls other than my absolute honest opinion, and my grading in this instance is my opinion on the audio quality in comparison with the many many Beatles albums that I have heard and played in the past!. I would class myself as highly critical when it comes down to the audio quality and this was played two times at very loud volume on a top system prior to listing! Please look at my completed listings of records that I have listed of this calaber and you will see that I normally get it right!
Important note! All four sides play through without any distortion. Which is so common on these albums and very rare to find like this. It is my personal opinion that this album has been played but certainly not overplayed, very minimal play due to the fact that there is very minimal spidering and ware around the spindle hole and the audio is clear and vibrant throughout!
Side 1. graded at least Excellent plus ! Plays through cristal clear and vibrant through out (no) grooveware\(no) distortion or that this has been overplayed at all. In strong light there are surface marks\scuffs\scratches (none) audio sounding that I heard that would cause any nasty annoying loud clicks or pops. Even between tracks and background noise is minimal superbe awesome audio through .!!!Just the lightest static crackle in quiet places only!! This played through absolutely awesome throughout with (no) loud clicks or pops or background noise that i heard !!!!! TOP AUDIO!!!
side 2. graded at least excellent to excellent plus! Plays through cristal clear and vibrant through out
(no) grooveware or that this has been overplayed at all. Only In strong light there are very few surface marks\scuffs\scratches even between tracks and background noise is minimal superbe awesome audio This played through absolutely awesome throughout with (no) loud clicks or pops or background noise that i heard !!Clear and very vibrant throughout!!Being highly critical only light static crackle\ticks can be heard perhaps in the odd isolated quiet place mainly in between one or two tracks I recall, but amaizingly nothing annoying during the audio! overall is absolutely superbe (no) distortion clear and very vibrant !!
side 3.graded at least excellent to excellent plus Plays through cristal clear and vibrant through out with very minimal interfearance. (no) grooveware\(no) distortion or that this has been overplayed at all In fact the actual audio is awesome cristal clear and vibrant with real rich basey feel and absolutely superbe seperation! . In strong light there are very few surface marks\scuffs\scratches. superbe awesome audio please allow for the odd light static that i heard during a couple of quieter tracks but nothing in my opinion that spoilt the overall awesome audio experiance! This played through absolutely awesome throughout certainly no skips!!! !!!!!Audio is very clear rated at the top!!!!
side 4. graded at least excellent to excellent plus Plays through cristal clear and vibrant through out (no) grooveware\ (no)distortion or that this has been overplayed at all. In strong light there are very few surface marks\scuffs\scratches.( even between tracks and background noise is minimal superbe awesome audio!!!!! !! This played through absolutely awesome throughout with (no) loud clicks or pops or background noise that i heard but just the odd isolated light static\crackle ticks here and there ! but nothing in my opinion detrimental to the overall awesome audio experiance!!! Audio is still rated at the top cristal clear and vibrant throughout even beteen tracks any noise is very minimal!!!
Audio summery!
All four sides were play tested by me two times prior to listing at very loud volume on a top system, importantly using a dedicated mono cartridge! Although visably there are some suface marks amaizinly these have very minor\little effect as I heard it! I would grade all four sides at least excellent to excellent plus absolutely stunning throughout!
Please note! I always add this disclaimer! Please allow for the odd static perhapes in the form of very light crackle\ticks that may only be heard during quiet places \tracks only and (not) consistant throughout the audio!! Please remember that these vinyls are genuine 41 years old and would have originally been played on a 41 year old system!!
