BEATLES • Yesterday & Today 1966 LP Mono Butcher Cover
If you've never had a Beatles Butcher album...THIS is the one to get you started!
This is called a 3rd State album.  BRIEF HISTORY:  "Third State" is the most common form of this album, yet it is still quite rare.  It is beleived that around 700,000 copies of the album were printed with the "butcher" scene and then returned to the factory to have the less objectionable photo of the Beatles sitting around a steamer trunk pasted on top.  But in 1966, curious American fans wanted to peel off the new label to see what was underneath.
That is what is being sold at this auction.  Someone in 1966 did a very average job of peeling off the steamer trunk cover.  Some remnants of the adhesive glue remained but that happens in nearly all peeled albums.  What does NOT happen is that family members were allowewd to doodle on the cover...SHAME.
You can see that this album has a doodle of a bird and also a doodle od some sort of flower person.  You will also see that someone tried to re-write some of the song titles that got torn off when the peeling process was attempted.
This is not a great peel.   But this is a fantastic 3rd State version of "Yesterday...and Today."  And even though the front cover is considered to be the most important facet of this album's worth, please consider the rest of this album's qualiities:
1) The spine is completely intact, no tears, rips, fades or splits. 2) The original Capitol inner paper sleeve is included.  Note the other Beatle albums Capitol listed. 3) The vinyl album sounds amazing given that it is now 60 years old.  There are almost no "pops" and only very minor clicks that can only be heard between tracks or during the begining of Paul's classic "Yesterday."  And even those minor clicks become hard to hear once the string quartet begins.
Please check out my other Ebay items as I will be listing most of my Beatles vinyl albums, 45's and CD's in the near future.
