Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. After splitting the Bluesbreakers, Mayall granted himself a holiday in Laurel Canyon, California and the album reflects his experiences during that time. The lyrics are autobiographical and refer, if obliquely, to people Mayall met on his first visit, such as Frank Zappa and Moon Unit Zappa (on "2401" ), the band Canned Heat (on The Bear), and famous groupie, Catherine James (on "Miss James" ).
The spell away from recording and performing live obviously gave Mayall the opportunity to regroup and contemplate his future musical direction but, while a return to vintage blues rock was always the logical choice, the psychedelic influence of Los Angeles is very much in evidence on tracks like "Vacation" and "First Time Alone".
The album was innovative for its time, especially by the standards of blues recordings. The first track opens with a recording of a jet airliner landing, dissolving into terrific driving & soaring guitar leads. There were no visible track divisions on the vinyl album. Some songs fade or segue into the next track, others stop on a chord which is immediately followed by the introduction of the next track. Tabla drums are used, as is the technique of hitting guitar strings with a drumstick. The final track is a short song which moves into an extended lead guitar solo underscored by Mayall's Hammond organ, fading into a simple unaccompanied guitar figure which repeats until it too fades. Besides being a return to basics for Mayall, Blues From Laurel Canyon is the farewell shout of Mick Taylor before he got the call from Mick Jagger to join The Stones. And, as much as this is Mayall's work, Blues From Laurel Canyon is Taylor's triumph. Here the free-flowing nature of the music allows more room to express himself especially on tracks like "Walking On Sunset", "First Time Alone" and "Fly Tomorrow"...Instantly, it is apparent that John Mayall hasn't lost his touch with the blues. "Vacation," the album's opener, reminds one exactly why this artist is so celebrated for his songwriting ability. The staggering Mick Taylor guitar work (here still in his teens) truly proves his worth as a blues guitarist, while Steve Thompson (also in his late teens) works superbly with one of the genre's most interesting drummers, Colin Allen. Blues from Laurel Canyon is as rewarding as Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton, and equally as musically interesting.
