Description
Here is a one-off, vertically-cut, double-sided experimental 12-inch 33-1/3 RPM pressing from BELL TELEPHONE LABORATORIES, INC. Impossibly, it seems to be made of clear yellow vinyl. Impossible, because vinylite wasn't invented for another five years! As far as I can tell, it isn't celluloid or any other flexible material in use by 1934. I don't see how it can be anything BUT vinyl, yet facts are facts!
One side has an un-named (fairly hot) dance band, playing "I'VE GOT THE WORLD ON A STRING" and "SUZANNE." The music plays for about a minute, then sudden silence for a while, then the music resumes. This happens six times! Weird!
The other side is GOLDMAN'S BAND, a crack military organization, run by the estimable EDWIN FRANKO GOLDMAN, doing "STEPPING ALONG" and Sousa's "KING COTTON MARCH."
The recordings are done at various audio levels, over-modulated and distorted at the outset of the dance band side, but ultimately revealing the startling high fidelity sound that Bell Labs brought to the world.
This unique and original 1934 Bell Laboratories "vinyl" pressing is nominally in E- condition. Scratches.

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will! Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.” I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
