BEN BROWN & THE MELODY MASTERS "Two Faces Of Love"/"Incognito" on STEELTOWN 6710.
Deadwax reads BB-101-A with Bud Pressner's 'BP' initianls also enscribed.
Condition is POOR but "Two Faces Of Love" plays through a strong G.
* The record is cracked and has a large edge chip.
* It is only by a miracle of nature that the "Two Faces Of Love" side plays completely through and actually a lot better than it looks. I'd say it plays G.
* The "Incognito" side is hacked with scratches and is virtually unplayable.
* The record's edge chip goes into the first two music grooves on "Incognito" further making it unplayable, but stops short of the music grooves on the "Two Faces Of Love" side allowing it to play completely through.
* The labels are flip-flop'ed on this record. When you are looking at the scans, understand which scan corresponds to which sound clip by noting the label reversal.
This record came from the rubble of Ben Brown's record store. This record is extremely rare and extremely good. The drums pound in the mix over bass and piano with Ben singing great lead. This is a great record for the dancefloor too. The chord progressions reminds me of Lost Weekend's "Little Black Child" for some reason. Pressner's intials inscribed mean it was probably recorded at this studios. I don't know where this record falls in the Steeltown canon, probably early if not the first. To me, this is the best Steeltown record, and one of Gary's finest soul products.
