Music for Loving is an album by American jazz saxophonist Ben Webster with tracks recorded in 1954 and released by Norgran in 1955. The album was reissued in 1957 by Verve as Sophisticated Lady.

Reviewing the compilation Allmusic's Stephen Cook stated: "the two-disc Music With Feeling delivers (...) incredible ballad interpretations. Webster, of course, made his name with many an after-hours gem, and he predictably shines here amidst the lush yet tasteful orchestral charts penned by Ralph Burns, Gerald Wilson, and Billy Strayhorn ... Forget all those bachelor-pad compilations and give this collection a spin at your next cocktail party".

The album was voted number 2 in the 50 All-Time Overlooked Jazz Albums from Colin Larkin's All Time Top 1000 Albums.

We have been listening to various forms of music for the past 52+ years and never once did we hear any instrument (except, possibly, Bach's organ works) that could even approach the sheer beauty and lyricism of Ben Webster saxophone. This is probably his finest, most beautiful and emotional work.

·                          THE RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)         WE GRADE THE VINYL AS NEAR MINT. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new (THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST-PRESERVED 70-YEAR OLD RECORD WE HAVE EVER OFFERED ON EBAY. THE RECORD APPEARS BARELY PLAYED, IF AT ALL).

(b)         The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).

(c)         The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)         The record comes in the original “Made in Great Britain” poly-lined stock inner sleeve.

(e)         Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-       Cover has JUST A HINT of ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 2   (VISIBLE ON BACK SIDE ONLY) .

-       Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.

-       Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine  (nothing significant)

-       Back cover has a small original price sticker, which may be possible to remove with a little effort (we did not attempt to)
