LP : Benny Bailey Sextett ?– Soul Eyes Jazz Live At The Domicile Munich

Original German first pressing from 1968 on SABA, SB 15 158 ST, pink SABA label with small deep groove in the center ( = first press label). Beautiful laminated foldout-cover, extensive liner-notes by J.E. Berendt inside. Recorded live in Munich, Germany, on January 11, 1968., capturing a unique magic moment of late 60ies Jazz recorded in Europe: the quintet/sextet performs finest modal jazz and hard-bop, all musicians are in top form, the playing is inspired and soulful indeed. The team of B.Bailey & N.Davis is ablsolutely amazing, Waldron does his fine percusssive block-chord comping/soloing and has beautiful lyrical solos as well as strong swinging single-work, J.Woode provides solid backings as well as great solo-work, on “Ruts, Grooves...” he's also heard with African style hollers, J.Campbell is on congas on the second tracks of both sides. Condition: I've listened carefully to the complete record on my REGA PLANAR 9 with EINSTEIN TU 3 cartridge and on my LINN AXIS with DENON MC:

the record looks mint- to mint-- in daylight & in normal artificial light ( very few tiny sleeve-/hair-lines ). Under a very strong halogen lamp the record looks like this: Side 1 looks mint-- to ex++, side 2 look ex+ to ex ( few very light marks ). The first tracks of both sides play in mint-. Side one's second track has a few soft tics behind M.Waldron's solo, the short flute theme after that has a few tics next to the music, alltogether less than 10 soft tics in both parts, nothing seriously disturbing. Side two's second track has just one tic in the bass-intro plus a few low tics a little later. The rest of the complete LP plays perfectly in mint-.

The cover shows moderate shelfwear, all seams/spine are intact with different amounts of just very moderate rub in a few parts ( spine: very minimal rub in 1 or 2 tiny spots - lettering is perfectly intact // bottom seams: little rub in a few parts // top seams: rub/abrasions in a few small spots ), the front has a small abrasion on top of the blue “O” of the word “SOUL” but is otherwise fine, the back & the inner are fine with just a hint of slightest shelfwear, there's slightest cornerwear, the lamination is intact, the opening is fine; overall ex--/vg++, please look at all 10 photos.

Zustand: ich habe die komplette LP konzentriert sowohl auf meinem REGA PLANAR 3 mit EINSTEIN TU 3 System als auch auf meinem LINN AXIS mit DENON MC angehört:

die LP sieht bei Tageslicht & unter einer normalen Lampe mint- bis mint-- aus (einige wenige zarte Innenhüllen-/Haar-Linien). unter einer sehr hellen Halogenlampe sieht Seite 1 mint-- bis ex++ aus, Seite 2 sieht ex+ bis ex aus (einige wenige sehr leichte Marks). Das erste Stück spielt auf beiden Seiten durchgehend in mint- . Das zweite Stück auf Seite 1 hat ein paar wenige leise Tics hinter M.Waldron's Solo und im Anschluß einige leise Tics neben der Musik beim Flötenthema, insgesamt weniger als 10 leichte Tics an beiden Stellen zusammen, nicht wirklich ernsthaft störend. Der zweite Titel auf Seite 2 hat nur einen einzigen Tics im Bass-Intro und ein paar wenige leise Tics hinter der Musik wenig später. Der Rest der kompletten LP spielt in perfektem mint-.

Das Cover hat mäßige Lagerspuren, alle Kanten sind intakt mit unterschiedlich ausgeprägtem und nur recht schwachem Abrieb an wenigen Stellen ( seitliche Kante: nur an 1 oder 2 winzigen Punkten – Schrift ist komplett intakt // untere Kanten: wenig Abrieb an wenigen Stellen // obere Kanten: Abrieb/Abnutzung an einigen wenigen Punkten), auf der Vorderseite ist über dem blauen “O” im Wort “SOUL” eine kleine Stelle abgerieben, ansonsten ist die Vorderseite sehr schön erhalten, ebenso wie die Rückseite und das Innere des Klappcovers, alle 3 zeigen nur leichteste Gebrauchs-/Alterspuren, die Ecken haben minimale Gebrauchsspuren, die Laminierung und dier Einschub sind intakt; insgesamt in ex--/vg++, bitte alle 10 Fotos ansehen.

Alle Platten wurden professionell gereinigt, entweder von mir (Hannl Mikro) oder von den Vorbesitzern (Okki Nokki, Loricraft o.Ä.). Anschließend wurden sie nur wenige Male abgespielt bzw. nur einmal von mir zum Bewerten angehört (komplett oder in Ausschnitten). Optische Bewertung erfolgt in Tageslicht, in normalen Kunstlicht & unter einer sehr hellen Halogenlampe. Platten kommen mit neuer hochwertiger Innenhülle & in einer Schutzhülle. Bitte beachten: auch prof. gereinigte Platten können einige Staubpartikel haben; “eingefangen” während optischer & akkustischer Bewertung, Fotografieren oder den wenigen Abspielungen der Vorbesitzer.

Grading & Cleaning:

• all records have been cleaned on a professional record cleaning machine, either by me (Hannl Mikro) or by the pre-owners (Okki Nokki, Loricraft or the like). After cleaning the records have been played just a few times (or only once by me for playgrading)

• I playgrade each record (completely or at least in parts) on my Rega Planar 9, high-end Moving Coil cartridge by EINSTEIN/ EMT TU-3 SFL (please consider that the playback might differ a bit depending on your own equipment)

• I also visually grade cleaned records in daylight, in normal artificial light & under a strong halogen lamp

• only an unplayed record is mint, my highest grading for a used record is mint- . My basic gradings are: mint – ex – vg

• cleaned records are stored in a new pro innersleeve and they are placed in a PVC protection-sleeve

• pl. note: even pro cleaned records may have received some dust particles during visual-/play-grading, photographing or few pre-owner playbacks
