Description
Released in 1973 on the Hallmark Records label, a division of Pickwick International under catalogue number SHM 850, this is an absolutely lovely copy of The Best Of Top Of The Pops 1973 vinyl album and comes complete with the originally packaged 1974 pinup calendar / poster.
As the title of the album obviously suggests, this was a compilation of some of the best selling songs of 1973, as found on other Top Of The Pops album releases throughout 1973.
The album/vinyl itself is in lovely, clean condition, certainly given that it is nearly 50 years old now, and plays perfectly well on both sides without hardly a crack or a pop to be heard. On Side 1, track 4 there is a very small surface mark on the vinyl that causes a click to be heard throughout verse 2 of the song but i have to say this is all over very quickly and really doesn't spoil the overall sound of the track. If the vinyl is pivoted in very bright light, the odd very feint/light small surface mark can be seen here and there but these are so feint/light, and few in number, they in no way affect the playing of the record and you really do have to look for these marks.
The album sleeve is in fantastic condition, again given it's age, still displaying bright, vibrant colours with no creasing or damage evident. There is no damage down the spine of the sleeve with all lettering in perfect condition - see photo. The only thing to point out, which is virtually common to all Top Of The Pop album releases, is that with age the adhesive along the top fold, and a small way along the bottom fold, of the sleeve has dried out so the cover is slightly loose here but this is just a 5 minute repair with some new glue.
The pin up calendar is again in excellent condition given it's age. Along where the calendar folds, there is a 3cm split from the outside inwards on the bottom left hand fold and a 4cm split, again from the outside inwards, on the central bottom fold but these have simply been caused through age with the calendar being printed on thin paper. I have to say though these 2 splits are hardly noticeable and in no detract from the poster which looks great.
All in all i would say anybody looking to own a copy of this album, particularly complete with it's original pin up calendar, would struggle to find one in better condition.
