Description
Big Bambú is the second album by Cheech & Chong, released in 1972. The name Big Bambu is a reference to the actual Bambu brand of rolling paper. The original LP concept and album package was approved by the producer Lou Adler and designed by Ron Larson and manufactured by Sound Packaging Corp. to look like a giant rolling paper package, and contained a giant rolling paper with the record. Vinyl copies with the rolling paper have become collectible and hard to find.
In generally positive review published in Rolling Stone, Janet Maslin singled out the duo's voice work for particular praise. "The thing Cheech and Chong are great with is voices. Each has terrific ears for dialect, anything from spare change wino to jiveass soul, and there are at least 20 distinct personae showing up here, all of them cleverly done." The album was nominated for Best Comedy Recording at the 15th Grammy Awards, but lost to George Carlin's FM & AM.
THIS COPY is a 1st Santa Maria pressing from 1972 on the Ode Records label (see Notes, below).
The vinyl has some light background static in places, but per a test listen, it is in Very Good Plus [VG+] condition with no skips or other major flaws.
The original "unipak" style cover has only some light signs of handling, but remains bright and sturdy. It does have a small price tag residue in the upper right hand corner of the front. Overall, it is in Very Good Plus [VG+] condition.
The original inner sleeve is in Very Good Plus [VG+] condition, with only a tiny split on the bottom seam and about 2 inch unglued top side seam at the record opening.
The original giant rolling paper has a couple of light creases, but remains in Excellent [EX] condition.
Notes
Unipak style sleeve is designed to resemble a pack of rolling papers and contained a giant rolling paper insert.
Release differs in price code (0598 rather than 0698)
