Description
Oh Baby! is an album by American organist Big John Patton recorded in 1965 and released on the Blue Note label with stellar jazz musicians. All compositions by John Patton except where noted Organist John Patton, guitarist Grant Green, and drummer Ben Dixon constituted a formidable rhythm machine for the Blue Note label in the early to mid-1960's. Through a series of recording sessions they developed an intuitive, empathetic interplay that elevated many of their sessions to near-greatness in the realm of soul-jazz. The trio knew each other so well that their grooves are totally natural, which makes them so appealing. “OH BOY” is one of "Big John" Patton's best and most mature and creative sessions. The two horns blend as if they play together all the time and both Harold Vick and Blue Mitchell on tenor saxophone and trumpet respectively deliver fine solos. Guitarist Grant Green steals the show on a couple of tunes with his horn-like lines. Of course Patton and adaptable drummer/composer Ben Dixon provide the foundation. Great variation in the tunes in terms of tempo and feel. 40 minutes of solid and fun Jazz music at it's best!
