Description

The earliest pressing here. The PROMOTIONAL, RADIO STATION-, AUDITION OR DEMONSTRATION COPIES AND RELEASES (such as the one we have here) were often distributed among the radio stations before the record was released to the public, sometimes as much as four months ahead. These records are generally considered to be the "first among equals", which is to say the VERY FIRST generation and the VERY FIRST pressings of the particular title; a PROTOTYPE and the earliest known official pressing of the record.

Sleeve has that all important hen's teeth 'Suggested Cut' 'sticker suggesting what are now all time classic songs. Also we have the added joy of the original 'promotional not for sale' sticker as well. Some creasing on some corner area. Full thick glossy record cover. No deletion drill on this one. EX. Original fragile paper die cut inner bag which rarely stays with the record to complete the set. A real find. Visually an Ex maybe more with some handling and wisps etc. Both original Ardent labels show no spindle to my eye. The disc has some , typical 'dishing' where one side is slightly in and one side is slightly domed. with a warp near edge more pronounced on side two but plays absolutely ok.though so no problem. The record has been fully play graded on treble setting and is a joy to hear with only some faint crakle pop usually on opening grooves and sometimes inbetween songs? A fantastic sound, crisp and bright. This record has acoustic subtlties which are undisturbed on this pressing. The record has the even more sought after dead wax message 'Steamroller Creation' that ,from what we read , was sometimes handwritten on the lacquer by Chris Bell or sometimes Andy Hummel when at R Nix's mastering stage so very special and unique. Please ask all relevant questions before you bid. Good luck on this highly sought edition from 1972 in Memphis.
