Description
First mono pressing of The Bill Evans Trio - Featuring Scott La Faro Sunday At The Village Vanguard June 25th, 1961. Recorded less than 2 weeks before Scott's tragic death in an automobile accident. Tracks from the session were used on the famous Waltz For Debby album.
According to DISCOGS online reference page, this is one of two label and jacket variations of first mono pressings.
This album has the label RM 376, with the label codes RLP 376 12-376 A, and RLP 12-376 B on side 1 and 2 respectively. Matrix numbers are RLP-12-376-A-1 AB (side one) and RLP-12-376-B-1 AB.
Other identifying features are the tan font used for "376 RIVERSIDE" on the lower right of the front cover, and Riverside High Fidelity RLP 376 on the top right of the back cover. Jade Visions, track B3 is listed at 3:46 on the back cover, and 3:41 on the label. Both sides are blue reel and silver print microgroove labels, with deep-grooves.
The textured cover grades a strong VG+ with the seams and spine intact, and no perceptible ring wear. There is a stain on the back side lower right-hand corner (shown in the photos)
The vinyl grades a VG+. There is light, generalized storage scuffing, but the vinyl retains its original sheen. There are a couple of light scratches on side 1 track 3, and side 2 track 2. Neither scratch is deep enough to be felt, but at times in quiet passages will reproduce audible ticks, however they are never overpowering or distracting. There is also a drill-through hole in the cover and through the record's label itself. I know of 2 or 3 copies of this particular pressing with drill-through holes like this, which are more often seen on 45 rpm singles. The hole does not affect play in any way. The vinyl produces a very good listening experience. It has more presence, and is much more engaging than the CD's in the Complete Village Vanguard box set I own. I've archived analog copies of the LP because of the difference.
