Description
HERE is an ultra rare test pressing of Bill Fay's much sought-after second album, Time of the Last Persecution, on original UK Deram vinyl from 1971. It is nothing less than a piece of history, revealing the exact date of this phenomenal release. The beautiful pink Deram test press labels are both in perfect condition with nothing untoward, no tears or blemishes of any kind, and only the original handwritten title and serial/matrix numbers (you will notice that not even the name of the artist appears). The disc looks faultless, even when examined under unforgiving halogen lighting, though during playback there is a certain amount of background noise, generally light and non-intrusive, but becoming more noticeable on the final couple of tracks on both sides. A tiny mark virtually invisible to the human eye results in several light ticks during a quiet passage at the end of track two on side one. Remarkably, this test pressing comes with its original sleeve. This is not a sleeve chanced upon and added at a later date but a piece of history. As you will be aware almost all test pressings originally came in just a plain cardboard sleeve, bearing a few handwritten details, but unusually in this case the finished cover must have been ready at the time this test pressing was produced, and so here is both test pressing and accompanying correct cover, featuring (as you can see from the photos) a company date stamp clearly indicating the exact release date. Time of the Last Persecution's unlaminated single sleeve generally suffers dreadfully from age-related wear and tear but this is a strong, perfectly presentable example, with no sticker tears, rips, nicks or unwanted writing - just the usual edgewear along the top and bottom, cornerwear, ringwear and spinewear, which you can see in the photos.
