Description
Just when you thought the Holidays were over, here's a Holiday you don't want to miss..... BILLIE HOLIDAY ladies and gentlemen at her best and in her rarest form.
The subject of Hollywood film Lady Sings The Blues and featured iconicly in Ken Burns documentary on Jazz, BILLIE HOLIDAY is and will likely remain one the most collectic icons in American Music. Just this week on ABC's NIGHTLINE: Liza Minnelli, When asked for a Playlist, included BILLIE HOLIDAY'S "HE'S FUNNY THAT WAY" in a Playlist of only 5 songs.
BILLIE HOLIDAY on COLUMBIA CL-6129 10" LP
ALBUM (NM-) Plays beautyfully no skips. Record does have some scuffs that I believe are mostly from removing and inserting the album into a sleave.Lable is in good condition no pealing an none of the marks you often see around the center hole which really is a testament to the fact that this album has seen very little play. Compare it with photos I have of another BILLIE HOLIDAY 10 inch from COLUMBIA (BILLIE HOLIDAY FAVORITES) which I'm listing along with this one as being in (VG) condition. You'll notice more of those marks that accumilate around the center from someone trying to correctly position the on a turntable; whereas in this album (BILLIE HOLIDAY SINGS) you'll see virtually none. Overall very collectable condition.
COVER Unfortunately the cover has not faired as well as the album, because this album was stored in another sleave. So this sleave has all of the top seam and half of the bottom seam split. There is also tape marks accross the top and bottom split areas. Other than that the cover is relatively sound, readable, with no foreign markings on it.
MANY OF YOU KNOW WHAT THIS ALBUM SELLS FOR: HOWEVER BE MOTIVATED TO BID AS THERE IS A MODEST RESERVE ON THIS ALBUM. THANKS , AND GOOD LUCK!!!
This record is a part of a collection that I've inherited as a result of a real estate aquisition. Having taken up piano, electric organ, and the saxaphone I'd say that I'm fairly passionate about music. Also I've watched over and over many documentaries on music like the Ken Burns PBS Series on Jazz, so I am therefore somewhat familiar with many of these artist and there work. Unfortunately, I have not, however convinced myself (inspight of my obvious appreciation for music) that I deserve to be the next collector of these recordings. Just not so sure that my current status affords me the opportunity to get the most out these gems. These recordings were very near being thrown away so having survived as long as some of them have, I romance the idea that they can now find themselves in the hands of a competent collector or music affectionado who give them a great new home. If I ever hit it big I'll probably be looking to buy some of these myself; until then I guest I'll have to settle for "one night stands" with these recordings that I have while auditing them for quality. Thanks for looking in and good luck bidding.
P.S Albums have been cleaned (WHEN NEEDED) and will be shipped in new plastic sheathing and include original cover (WHEN AVAILABLE) via media mail.
