Beautiful copy of the rare original 5-disc version of Bing's Merry Christmas 78 album on Decca A-403. Later editions, even only a year later, had only 4 discs. This is the very first edition of this Christmas classic, which has remained in print ever since, even to this day. Features the original and by far the best version of White Christmas, re-recorded in about 1946, after which all copies usd the new version, which is lovely but not as great as this original. Also as some wonderful songs with the Andrews Sisters, which are always favorites. Most people have heard this stuff, but when you hear the original 78s it is like hearing it for the first time. The sound is just wonderful on this original version of the record, and this copy really brings it out. All five discs are in great condition. There are some scuffs and a bit of light wear but really is is just light surface wear that doesn’t affect the play much at all. The whole thing plays just beautifully and magically, with minimal background noise. The fifth disc, the one with the Andrews Sisters, is the “Block” or “Star” Decca label, while the rest are the “Scroll” Deccas, and this seems to be the case with lots of copies. It is absolutely the correct record, not a mistake. The cover is also in exceptional condition, with just a bit of edge and corner wear and an absolutely perfect spine with no rips at all. Strong binding and record pockets. This is truly a top original of this rare first version. Hard to beat...
