You will find this album of ancient music on The Absolute Sound Super LP List. It has an incredible variety of music and instruments from a 200-year period. There are no voices. The sound is very clean, transparent, complex and extended in the highs. The harmonic richness and decay within the hall is outstanding. The soundstage is very deep, but it is not unusually wide. Further, audiophiles use La Spagna as a basic reference to assess their systems. It is virtually unique in how quickly it weeds out ordinary gear from extraordinary components, usually in less than a minute!
A personal anecdote. Years ago when I lived in New York City, I heard the Atrium Musicae in its first American performance at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The audience, which was liberally sprinkled with notable figures from the music world, was wildly enthusiastic about the group. So were the critics. The response was so tremendous that the group made several return engagements in sucessive years, a rare occurrence for performing artists invited to appear at the museum. Tickets were impossible to get, even from scalpers. However, if you were dating a beautiful Julliard student whose mother was a curator at the Met, it was a cinch to get good seats for all three performances.
In sum, a must for music lovers and audiophiles alike! Don't let this rarity slip by.
