BLACK SABBATH Black Sabbath (Vertigo 847 903 VTY) RARE French Swirl 1st Pressing MINT-
RARE original very first French pressing of Black Sabbath`s eponymous debut album on Vertigo Records (February 1970).
Nothing much to add here: "Black Sabbath" proved the blueprint for everything that was to follow in the hard-and-heavy sector for many, many years. Once belittled by fellow musicians and derided by the music press, Black Sabbath have proven themselves the seminal hard rockers, second only to the mighty Led Zeppelin.
GRADING:
VG++ COVER. Laminated French gatefold sleeve, very nice except for two lengthy vertical laminate creases (at top left of front cover) and two smaller creases (1" each in length) to front spine. Otherwise only lightest general (storage) wear, with solid edges all round. Please see photos for details.
- Includes original French inner sleeve, date-stamped "1/70", therefore a first pressing!
VG++ RECORD. Visually, the record has a fair bit of mostly superficial hairlining. A small scuff (1/2 inch; in the title track) is inaudible. All said, the lp has been played, but it was obviously well taken care of.
- Play-graded VG++ to MINT- with only light background crackle in some quieter passages or in between tracks. Two or three lightly audible pops (on side one).
- No spindle wear at all to either of the original French Vertigo "swirl" labels.
- Matrix stamps that read "PH1 AA 847903 1Y 380" and "PH1 AA 847903 2Y 380": Along with the release date of "January 1970" shown on the inner sleeve, this clearly denotes a very first French pressing.
