Description
Original 'Earliest' 1970 U.K. Stereo Vertigo Swirl 1st Pressing Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath!!! The UK 1st Pressing of Their First Ever Record on LARGE Swirl labels with the Mega Rare 'Phillips' label Credit!!! Complete with Earliest 1st Press Sleeve & Original Inner Swirl Sleeve!! One of The Hardest of All Sabbath Albums to Find as a UK 1st Pressing!
This is one of a number of very rare 'Swirlies' that I'm listing this week. You are bidding on a Mega Rare 'Earliest' 1970 UK Vertigo Swirl 1st Pressing of the Legendary Debut LP by Black Sabbath!!! It is the 1970 UK 1st PRESSING on the Vertigo LARGE Spiral Label with the impossibly rare Phillips credit which reads 'A Phillips Record Product' underneath the Vertigo logo on the bottom of the Side 2 label. Finding true 'Phillips' 1st pressings are impossible today
Of course, it comes complete with rare 1st issue gatefold sleeve with Inverted cross, warning' text, and Ozzie's name misspelled as 'Ossie' This is the earliest possible UK 1st issue sleeve and is in beautiful Ex+ condition - very rare!!! It comes complete with its Near Mint original poly-lined vertigo swirl inner sleeve!! Finding a complete UK Vertigo Swirl 'Phillips' 1st press copy of this very influential album in this condition today is almost impossible!!! Like all my auctions, it has a £2.99 start and NO reserve, so what you bid is what you pay!!!
Cat No:

1st Press Matrix:
Side 1 - VO6 1Y//1
Side 2 - VO6 2Y//1
The cool 1st press 'Phillips Credit' Swirl centre labels are in Excellent condition with NO Scribbles. NO lifting or Bubbling & NO unwanted writing/scribbles!!! The labels retain all their original whiteness with none of the common yellowing!!!
Finding a 'Phillips' 1st press is almost impossible today, many people talk about this legendary 1st press, but it is rarely, if ever, seen by most people. Whilst not my usual near Mint standard, I this this merits a place on my pages just through sheer rarity! That said, it still grades a full Excellent, with just one of two hairlines here and there. Although not up to my usual standard grade-wise, it would still be in the 5% condition-wise for most other vinyl sellers on ebay!
The original 1st issue Marcus Keef-designed un-laminated gatefold sleeve is in superb Excellent+++ condition. It is unbelievably clean, tidy and unblemished!!! On the rare occasions these show up they are usually completely worn out. Vertigo's policy of not laminating their sleeves during the early 1960's & 70's always leads to these sleeves turning up grubby and worn-out looking today. This one is not!!! It still retains ALL of its original stiffness and BOX SHAPE and whilst not Mint, easily grades as Excellent+++!!! It folds out perfectly to reveal the inner, which is completely unblemished!!! The sleeve has NO unwanted writing/scribbles/repairs etc!!! There is some very very light edge wear on the lower seam (none at all on the upper seam) & and a tiny, almost invisible nick on the spine! but that's it!! Anyone familiar with this early UK Vertigo sleeve will appreciated how rare it is in this condition!!
Of course, this record comes with its correct and original 'black swirl on white background' poly-lined Vertigo Swirl inner sleeve. These also always suffer from horrendous seam splitting and yellowing, and for some reason often become separated from the poly-lining! They also always seem to turn up with at least one split seam (usually the bottom where the record has knifed through) This one however is in superb Near Mint condition!!! It lies perfectly flat with no seam splits and no nasty creases!!! It retains all its vibrant whiteness and has none of the yellowing common with these inners!!! A great example!!! A massively rare UK Vertigo 1st pressing indeed - especially in this condition!!! This is one of those LP's with a seriously underestimated rarity value!!! You just never see this record anymore in the UK with the 'Phillips' label credit!!! A great album and a sound investment for the future! Don't Miss!
When this LP was released it was pressed in very small quantities as Black Sabbath were, at that point, an unknown UK band. However as we all know, they went on to lay down their own particular brand of fuzzed out heavy metal and pretty much re-defined the whole genre as a result. This is thus the LP every fan of classic rock/metal wants in their collection, and is by far the hardest of all the Black Sabbath LPs to get hold of. In this condition it is impossible!!! As such the very first 1970 UK Vertigo Swirl Press is in very high demand today. An absolutely essential (and massively important) record to own!!!
I have made this auction private to respect the winners privacy due to the high value of this record.
I will be selling my entire UK 1st Press collection of 1960/70's Psych/Prog./Beat/Rock & Folk over the coming months, most of these records are in Mint- condition, many having 3 figure book prices. All will be listed here on eBay UK, most with a £2.99 start and No Reserve - bookmark my pages. Like the vast majority of my collection, this record has been archived upright in a thick outer PVC sleeve in a smoke & damp free environment since purchase!
All my records have No reserve, a Low Start and No Surcharges!

Postage ... Hazey Jane has absolutely NO hidden surcharges; the price you win is the price you pay, just add the relevant postage, it's as simple as that! We always combine postage so if you win more than 1 auction you save money on postage costs! We will only ship to non-UK countries via Airmail - we do not use surface mail, it is way too slow and thus increases the risk of records being damaged during transit.
A little note about insurance - Please read carefully... If the value of your record(s) is over £30, your invoice will include an insured option. Being the responsible adults you are, it is entirely up to you to take this up - we strongly advise you to do this but will not hassle you about it. You either add the required insurance or you don't. If you do add the required insurance and your record is lost/damaged, you will get a refund. If you don't add the required insurance and your record is lost/damaged, you will not get a refund. Can we be any clearer? I think not.

Refunds & Feedback ... Please read this carefully ... We try to give you the best quality examples of rare records available. However, there will always be somebody out there whose expectations far exceed UK record collector grading standards. If you are in anyway unsatisfied with your record or our grading of it please refer to the UK Record Collector Grading Chart very carefully BEFORE emailing us. We strictly adhere to it and will only offer refunds (minus the postage AND our eBay costs) if we are satisfied that we have fallen below UK record collector grading standards. This will very rarely, if ever, happen. We will not be impressed with buyers disputing our gradings without even bothering to check the UK record collector grading standards chart first - you have been warned ...
Buyers who continually Haggle, Whine and Moan to try to decrease the price they won their auctions for will be blocked from bidding on future auctions and can toodle off down to HMV or Virgin where they can harass the counter staff there.
We will always leave feedback upon receipt of feedback. In an ideal world we would like to leave feedback as soon as the record has been shipped but due to feedback blackmail in the past (i,e, ",,,I want a partial refund or I will leave negative feedback") we have opted to take this measure. Contact must be made within 3 days of winning the auction. If payment has not been received after 10 days a non paying bidder alert will be placed. If payment is then not received within 7 days Negative feedback WILL be left and the buyer WILL be given a strike by eBay. Thanks for reading.
