Now here is a detailed overview of this records condition.

SLEEVE REVIEW

FRONT. 

In generally great condition. There is a rubbed area just beside the woman face. Other than that and some very feint superficial marks. This unlamented cover has stood the test of time well. Grades excellent.

BACK. 

Again, really good. No writing, no ring wear, no stains or bad scratches. Excellent 

INNER GATEFOLD.

Nice looking panels. No names, or tears. Some small surface marks; little white spots, some rubbing. Nothing more then signs of life. Grade and excellent minus.

SPINE.

Decent, solid spine. I can read the text. Very minor creasing and compression if any. Some very mild rubbing along the seam, more evident at either end of the spine. Grades as excellent minus.

OPENING.

Flat with some signs of softening to the very edge. Very light creasing and some gentle light dents. No rips or major feathering. So this grades as very good plus.

CORNERS. 

All the corners are still solid with no splits. All have rubbing to a moderate degree. They grade an average of Very good minus.

TOP AND BOTTOM EDGES.

Neither edge have splits. Bottom edge has rubbing right along and grades very good minus. Top edge has a little less and grades as very good. 

INNER SLEEVE REVIEW

Paper company swirl sleeve, lined with plastic. Plently of creases, no names. One side has split from top top opening about 5" down. Other sides are fine. Grades Good.

I will also provide a plain white inner for shipping.

LABELS

SIDE ONE. No names or stickers. Some surface marks and light rubbing. Grades very good minus.

SIDE TWO.No names or stickers. Some surface marks ,light rubbing, and some grubby marks. Grades good plus.

VISUAL GRADES

SIDE ONE. 

First thoughts are not altogether bad. Glossy looking surface, a little dusty. Plenty of fine whispy marks, some short, some a few inches long. A few fine light scratches, a couple cover a whole track. That being the case there is still plenty of unmarked surface. It is a side that looked played, but not played out. Grades as very good minus.

SIDE TWO.

Again; nice glossy surface with a bit of dust and plenty of mark free surface. Quite a few fine hairlines present. There are some finer light scratches and a long light scuff. None look hard and none of the marks on either side caused any major problems during play back as you will see in my audio grades. It is a better looking side than side one and grades as very good minus.

LIVE AUDIO GRADINGS

WRITTEN AS I LISTEN. 

SIDE ONE 

BLACK SABBATH. 

Ok here we go. A light bit of crackle in the silent lead in and behind the special effects intro with the rain. I can hear the rain very clearly, nice. Then boom, when the band kicks in you can tell what a warm ,loud recording this is. Proper decent vinyl from back in the day. I am hearing cracking thought, raising its head. The odd mild pop to. No repeating ticks so far. The crackle is not terribly loud, but is noticeable in parts. Kind of adds to the creepiness of this track, which is already sounding pretty creepy. There is no deterioration or unwanted distortion of top and low frequencies. Pretty good all in all, and in spite of some crackle has stood up well. Grades as very good minus

THE WIZARD. 

A bit of crackle between tracks. I haven't played this in such a long time it will be grateful for a deep clean. Harmonica is sounding good.Crackle in the back ground before the rest of the band kick in. Another powerful sounding recording. The guitar is sounding really sweet. The drumming on this track is superb. No signs of being overplayed. A fine track that grades as excellent minus.

BEHIND THE WALL OF SLEEP.

Good clear and loud sounding start. The vocals are jumping out of the speakers on this mix. The lead guitar sounding exceptionally crunchy. Nothing beats original pressed vinyl for sound quality. Drum solo on the outdo is sounding good. An enjoyable listen and fine sounding track with some light crackle in odd moments and during the bass outro. Grades as excellent minus.

N.I.B

I challenge you not to start involuntary head banging when this track comes on. No signs of overplaying. Bottom end is full sounding. Tamborine sounds crisp.  Great to finish on such a top track. Audio was excellent minus and there was some light crackle.

Overview. A fine sounding side that has stood the test of time in spite of being nearly 50 yrs old. No real loss of frequencies or sounds of being over played. Crackle is evident but there were no repeating ticks or jumps. Over all this sides grades in my opinion as very good plus.

SIDE TWO

EVIL WOMAN DONT PLAY YOUR GAMES WITH ME.

Ok so, a bit of crackle in the lead in and for the first couple of bars until the music kicks in; loudly. The bass is quite upfront. No sound deterioration. Some crackle present, quiet minor, here and there. Guitar solo sounds perfect. No issues with this track outside of the crackle here and there. Grades as very good plus.

SLEEPING VILLAGE.

Some very light crackle between tracks and during songs acoustic intro which is very quiet. Things kick in with the whole band and it sounds great. I can hear everything very clearly including the hand percussion. Things change tempo again, and now am I hearing sleigh bells in the background? Maybe a tambourine through an effect. Grades as very good plus.

WARNING. 

Where does one track end and the other begin? Vocals are sounding loud. In the line "Just a little bit too strong" about mid way through I hear one low pop. I've not heard many pops on either side. Not real signs of over playing. Some crackle, more noticeable in quiet sections, of which there are a few in this track. I can make out instrumentation and effects in the quiet parts despite this. When things kick off with the whole band it sounds beefy. Boom! Black Sabbath have left the building! Grades as very good minus because you hear the low crackle more often due to more quiet parts.

FINAL THOUGHTS

It plays very well with some crackle and a couple of light pops. But importantly no skips, or jumps or repeating loud ticks. Many copies of this album have been overplayed to the point of audio deterioration, that is not the case hear as the top and low notes all sound clear and strong.The cover is well preserved and shows some signs of age, but not that much. A great playing copy for fans and collectors wanting to get in on the collection ladder with this release. 

GRADING YOUR VINYL

I use the classic U.K Rare Record Guide grading system. Detailed below are their guidelines.

MINT

The LP or single is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items are in perfect condition.

EXCELLENT 

The LP or single shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD

The LP or single has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and an occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover and contents without any major defects.

GOOD

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

POSTAGE

All records come with a protective poly sleeve, and new white inner. Records are shipped outside of the sleeve within reinforced cardboard packaging to ensure safety during transit.
