Black Sabbath : Tyr A1 / B1 1st press 1990 I.R.S. Records

This first pressing plays to a superb standard with hardly any intrusion.  For once the start of each side play with exceptional quality and this is rare for this album.  Yes there are a handful of static ticks at the beginning of S2 but there is so much less static / crackle than usual!  It is a stunning album and that is despite the visual quality not being the best, please see more details about this below.  The sonic quality is stunning throughout and the original power and definition of the audio is still very much in evidence with no distortion on the top end.

The cover is absolutely stunning!  I have never seen one as clean as this and you would be happy if you had just purchased it brand new!  The lyric inner is also in superb condition.

Visual description

The vinyl is in very good condition and is certainly a case of playing better than its visual quality.  Do not get me wrong it is not in poor quality and there are no actual scratches but when you look under a bright light you can see some hairlines and there are a small number of faint scuffs at the beginning of S2 in one area.  However, they have zero affect on the audio.  Under a more 'forgiving' light it looks very clean!  The IRS labels are in superb condition with no spindle wear.

Play grading

The quiet intro on 'Anno Mundi' plays so clearly with barely any static and the equally quiet opening vocal is exactly the same.  It is rare for this section to play as clean as this.  As the volume increases the power and depth of the audio is stunning and Martin's next vocal is faultless.  It continues in the same way and the next quieter section plays beautifully with no background.  The remainder is just as impressive - the intro is Near Mint- and the rest is Mint without doubt.

'The Law Maker' plays loud and true through every vocal and instrumental section.  There is no distortion on the top end and the sonic quality is superb.  A fast and furious track featuring great work from Powell.  Mint

'Jerusalem' keeps up the standard and plays perfectly from start to finish with no intrusion not even a dust tick.  Mint

The staccato intro on 'The Sabbath Stones' is 'as new' and from then on it plays with sublime quality.  Despite being the final track on the side the audio does not suffer and there is no inner groove distortion at all.  The quieter vocals play with incredible precision and the high octane end section is on another level.  A phenomenal Mint version.

'The Battle Of Tyr' often plays with a lot of static / crackle, it seems to be a common feature of this pressing, but this is a very impressive version.  There are a handful of static ticks near the start but thereafter plays with outstanding clarity.  The intro is Ex and the rest Mint-

The quiet intro on 'Odin's Court' has no background (another rarity!) and the first verse is equal to that.  The instrumental bridge plays so clearly and the second verse has no interference either.  Not the best visually as stated but the audio is Mint- for sure.

The segue into 'Valhalla' is flawless and Martin's opening vocal section is on the same level.  This is another track that demands to be turned up to max and the sonic quality does not suffer for it.  Superb work from Iommi as per always (!) and the power and definition of the audio is incredible!  Mint through every section.

The intro on 'Feels Good To Me' plays with such clean audio, only a couple of barely audible dust ticks, and the first vocal is perfect.  This rock ballad may not exactly 'fit' with the rest of the album but there is no denying the quality of the audio - every vocal and instrumental section plays with great clarity and warmth and there are no ticks, clicks, pops or static.  It is Mint at the very least.

'Heaven In Black' ends the album with genuine quality once more.  The clarity and power of the audio is undiminished and Mint is again richly deserved.  A stunning album in so many ways!

The Cover & Lyric Inner

The cover is in fantastic condition, it looks 'shop fresh' basically!  I'm trying hard to find some wear but in all honesty I cannot see any!  A hint of rubbing on the two right hand corners but it is miniscule and does not warrant a mention.  The edges and spine are so clean and the opening edge has no handling wear either.  The front and back cover are immaculate and it easily deserves a Mint- grade.

The lyric inner has also been preserved so well and has no side splits or tears or marking.  No obvious creasing either.

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
