Black Sabbath : Tyr A1 / B1 1st press 1990 I.R.S. Records

This very collectable first pressing plays to a very high standard with minimal intrusion, there is just a little static at the start of each side but there are no clicks or pops anywhere.  This static is very common with this LP and it does not detract from what is a fine album.  The vast majority plays with outstanding clarity and power and with barely any spindle wear I doubt if the album has been played very much.

The cover is still inside the original shrink-wrap apart from the opening edge area of course.  It has caused a little 'bending' in the top corners which may not be so pronounced if the shrink was removed?  Aside from that it is in superb condition.  The original 'Clearance' (!) price sticker is still on the front also.  The lyric inner is in excellent condition with only light bending in the top corners.

The audio on S1 is Mint(-) (T1 intro / opening vocal Ex)

The audio on S2 is Mint(-) (T1 Ex- / T2 Ex+)

The cover (in 'shrink') is Ex

The labels are Mint-

Visual description

The vinyl is in very good condition and still has a strong glossy with no scratches.  Under a bright light there are some faint hairlines and just a little mottling but overall it is a very clean copy.  In a more 'forgiving' light it looks great!  The IRS labels are close to perfect with barely any spindle wear.  There is a minor 'lift' on one edge when you play S1 but is hardly noticeable when you play S2.  It isn't a warp as such and has no affect on the stylus or audio of course.

Play grading

The intro and opening vocal on 'Anno Mundi' has some light static which always seems to be the case with this album but it is not intrusive.  As the volume increases the sonic quality is STUNNING - the audio is so strong and deep and Martin's next vocal is faultless.  It continues in the same way and then the quieter mid section plays beautifully with no background.  The remainder plays perfectly so overall I will grade the intro as Ex and the rest as Mint

The fast and furious 'The Law Maker' plays with sensational clarity and power through every vocal and instrumental section.  Superb work from Powell here and Mint is very much deserved.

'Jerusalem' more than keeps up the standard and plays with incredible sonic quality from start to finish with zero intrusion.  It has to be the best version I have ever heard, it is superb!  Mint

The stop / start intro on 'The Sabbath Stones' again plays like it has never been played before, there is nothing getting in the way of the audio.  From then on it plays with sublime quality and that includes the next quieter verse.  This truly is audio of the highest calibre, indeed all the quieter 'moments' play without any background and as for the power of the audio?  Wow!  The high octane end section is a case in point - 'as new' sums it up which is how you can describe the entire track.  A phenomenal version that is Mint in every way.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

The intro on 'The Battle Of Tyr' has some light static and lasts for a few seconds only.  The middle section is perfect and the quieter end section just has a handful of static ticks.  Ex- overall.

The quiet intro on 'Odin's Court' has only minimal static and the opening vocal section is much the same.  The second verse has hardly any background, the clarity of sound is so impressive, and Ex+ is deserved here.

The segue into 'Valhalla' is perfect and the Martin's opening vocal section is just as strong.  This is clearly another track that has to be turned up to max and the sonic quality does not suffer for it.  It is such a powerful track and the power and definition of the audio is incredible!  It could not play any better and grades as Mint through every section.

The intro on 'Feels Good To Me' plays with great clarity and the first vocal has no intrusion either.  This rock ballad may not be in keeping with the rest of the album but there is no denying the quality of the audio - it plays with sublime clarity and warmth with no ticks, clicks, pops or static.  It has to be graded as Mint

The final track 'Heaven In Black' provides the perfect ending to the album.  The clarity and power of the audio is undiminished and yep Mint is again fully deserved.

The Cover & Lyric Inner

As stated the cover is still largely enclosed within the original shrink-wrap.  The 'shrink' has constricted a little which has caused the two top corners to bend somewhat but it could perhaps be 'flattened' if the shrink was removed.  No guarantee of course.  Aside from that the edges, spine and corners have no wear - no knocks or dings - and the opening edge has no handling wear either.  The front and back cover are obviously unmarked and the original price sticker is still firmly attached.

The lyric inner is unmarked but again has a little bending / creasing around the two top corners.  Less noticeable here though.

Postage & Packaging

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
