Your browser does not support the audio element.Vol. 4 is the fourth studio album by English rock band Black Sabbath, released in September 1972.
It was the first album by Black Sabbath not produced by Rodger Bain; guitarist Tony Iommi assumed production duties.
Patrick Meehan, the band's then-manager, was listed as co-producer, though his actual involvement in the album's production was minimal. In June 1972, Sabbath began work on their fourth album at the Record Plant studios in Los Angeles.
"It's the first album we've produced ourselves," observed Ozzy Osbourne. "Previously we had Rodger Bain as a producer – and, although he's very good, he didn't really feel what the band was doing.
It was a matter of communication. This time, we did it with Patrick, our manager, and I think we're all very happy… It was great to work in an American studio." The recording was plagued with problems, many due to substance abuse. In the studio, the band regularly had speaker boxes full of cocaine delivered.

The vinyl
The vinyl is the original thick and heavier type only found like this on earliest pressings! There is surface marks /scratche /scuffs noted with useage and play over the years. I can't feel any marks that would cause any loud constant clicks or pops but these do cause static crackle that is heard especially in isolated quiet places during the play. Visually the vinyl is Very Good plus!
The labels These are the earliest 1st UK issued Vertigo Swirl labels features the LARGE SWIRL Logo on the labels. There is spidering from play and usage around the spindle hole but little if no spindle wear the hole is perfectly round! There are no nasty hand writing or names written on the labels!
The Audio Quality
I have played this vinyl at very loud volume on a top system and recorded the complete album for you to hear in the player above! It is noted that the vinyl plays without any skips or jumps and the main audio is very clear and vibrant throughout. It is noted that static type crackle/ticks/light pops is heard in quiet places ,especially in quiet places or quiet tracks but overall I found the play very enjoyable and a playable copy. Audio Excellent and vibrant with isolated interferance as mentioned above.
The Record Sleeve
This is a plain white poly sleeve with light fading/browning with age. no splits or tears!
The Cover
This is the original 1st UK issue Howards Press printed, un laminated gatefold cover and complete with the original illustrated booklet without any splits or tears and fully intact. There is light storage wear /rubbing noted only light finger prints being primarily black any marks show up on this cover. Nice square spine all text is readable. Cover graded excellent.
