Black Sabbath : We Sold Our Soul For Rock 'N' Roll 1Y1/2Y1/1Y1/2Y1 1st press 2LP 1976 Nems + Three Programmes

This first pressing plays to a very high end standard with only minimal interference.  There are three consecutive clicks on the first track but then the rest of the album is close to perfect with stunning sonic quality.  Yes the final two tracks have one tick / click each but they are very much in the background and hardly intrusive.  The clarity, depth and power of the audio overall is very impressive though.

For once the cover is in superb condition with only minimal wear and the original inner sleeves have also been very preserved with no side splits.  The three original programmes are in excellent shape apart from the second 'unofficial' orange one which is in very good condition.

Visual description

The vinyl is in excellent condition overall and still have a strong glossy sheen with no actual scratches.  Under a bright light there are some faint hairlines with a couple on S1 that are a little more obvious but they have no affect on the audio.  The NEMS labels are very clean with no marking with just a little more spindle wear on the second record, there is only a very minimal amount on the first one.

Play grading

The 'thunderstorm' intro on 'Black Sabbath' is perfect and the only interference across the entire track is three clicks just prior to the opening vocal.  A handful of very quiet statics also but they are not intrusive.  'The Wizard' plays with stunning quality and the 10+ minute 'Warning' is just as strong with a sonic quality that cannot be faulted.  The majority of the side Mint but for that brief G section on the first track that lasts for three seconds only.

Three classics to open S2 with!  'Paranoid' one of the finest versions I have ever heard with no background at all 'War Pigs' is just as strong with a sonic quality that is Mint in every way.  'Iron Man' plays to the same high end standard and the relatively obscure 'Wicked World' completes the side with impeccable quality once more.  A Mint side for sure.

'Tomorrow's Dream' and 'Fairies Wear Boots' both play with stunning precision and 'Changes' also impresses on so many levels.  There is no static / distortion and only a handful of very quiet statics, no interference basically and Mint- is fair.  'Sweet Leaf' is 'as new' from start to finish and 'Children Of The Grave' is very close to that with only very minimal static on the quiet end section.  They grade as Mint and Near Mint respectively.

'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath' and 'Am I Going Insane (Radio)' on S4 both plays with stunning quality and the rest of the side plays with exceptional audio and barely any interference.  In fact the only 'intrusion' is one background tick / click each on 'Snowblind' and 'N.I.B.' but you could easily miss them.  The quieter instrumental 'Laguna Sunrise' plays beautifully with no intrusion.

In summary this first pressing plays with real quality across all four sides and as you can see the only interference is on the first track albeit very brief.  The rest of this double album plays with outstanding clarity, depth and power - almost perfect apart from the two minor background clicks on S4.  As you can see the cover is in excellent condition also, a genuine rarity, and don't forget three programmes are included!

The Gatefold, Inner Sleeves & Three Programmes 

This cover is often found in poor condition due to its matt texture but this one has been very well preserved.  The edges are incredibly clean with only a couple of tiny 'rubs' and the wide spine is in superb shape with only very minimal wear on the corners.  The other corners are in excellent condition also with just a little more wear bottom right.  The opening edges again have minimal handling wear and the front cover remains very clean with only a couple of tiny corner creases.  The back cover is just as impressive with only a faint crease near the top left corner.  The inside of the gatefold is superb with no marking and the 4 page booklet is still firmly attached.

The 'Plastic Bag...' inners are in great condition with no side splits and have only minimal creasing and age related fading.

The two orange 'unofficial' programmes from 1975 vary in quality.  The first one is in superb condition with only minimal creasing mainly on the back.  The second has a lot more creasing / folds but it remains in one piece with no loose pages.  The official 'Winter Tour' programme from 1975 is in great condition with only minimal creasing.

Play tested on my Rega P2 with AT-VM95EN Cart / Denon PMA-520AE Amp / B&W 684 Speakers

The records have been cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
