WHOA!! Blue Mitchell like you've never heard, light years away from his traditional hard bop recordings of the 60's, Blue ventures into a funk jazz mode that almost sounds like a lost soundtrack recording!!  Monk Higgins is the arranger and he has the magic touch when it comes to jazz-funk and the side musicians are all stellar: Wilton Felder (bass); Paul Humphrey (drums); Bobby Bryant (trumpet); Monk Higgins (piano) amongst others.  The entire album is first rate but pay attention to the tunes: "HNIC", "FLAT BACKING" and "BANTU VILLAGE".  This album is getting real hard to find and is listed in Peter Wermelinger's "Funky & Groovy Music Records Lexicon" which lists the essential funk/groove recordings.  This gets my highest recommendation and  You better believe I have a copy in my archives and you should too.  GOOD LUCK...plenty of cool tunes for you coming, so keep an eye out.
