BLUE MITCHELL “The Thing To Do” Blue Note RVG, P, BLP 4178 Mono Vinyl
This is 1965, first edition, “Van Gelder” stamped, “P” pressing of BLUE MITCHELL’s “The Thing To Do” on the "New York USA” labels of Blue Note BLP 4060. Musicians include Blue Mitchell – trumpet, Junior Cook - tenor saxophone, Chick Corea – piano, Gene Taylor – bass, Al Foster - drums.
VINYL: Side 1 plays with consistent light surface noise (i.e, crackle, static, ?? or ????, relative to the volume of the music/instruments), with occasional pops and ticks (some repeating). Side 2 plays with medium level surface noise (characteristics as above), with pops and ticks. Both sides, ensemble sections are very clear, dynamic and strong with clean transients, and full tone. No distortion. Okay gloss. Many hairline marks, 2 or 3 feelable. (If you can’t feel it, you won’t hear it). The “New York USA” labels are clean, with aging, and spindle wear. Original inner sleeve included. See photos.
COVER is in good shape. Some wear. Corners worn. Spine excellent, seams show wear, cracking. See photos. “BLUE NOTE RECORDS INC., 43 West 61st St., New York 23” back jacket shows wear. Please see photos.
This LP was play-tested on a high-end audio system. RECORD CLEANED ON ULTRASONIC CLEANER.
