Description
At auction here is a copy of “Bo Diddley’s Beach Party,” an LP on the Checker label (catalog 2988). This is a version Checker calls “High Fidelity ” on the sleeve’s backside, but on the label, it’s “Ultra High Fidelity.” At any rate, since the creators aren’t calling it “Stereo,” it’s probably “Mono” dressed up fancy by Checker. In the needle run-out is the catalog number, plus “12570” and “JM 0692.”
The sleeve states that the record was made in live sessions over two days of recording at Myrtle Beach, SC in July, 1963 “before an audience of more than two thousand . . . admirers.” Songs they were admiring include “Memphis,” “Gunslinger,” “Hey Bo Diddley,” “Old Smokey,” “Bo Diddley’s Dog,” “ I’m All Right,” “Mr. Custer,” “Bo’s Waltz,” “What’s Buggin’ You” and “Road Runner.”
CONDITION
Sleeve—Very good, especially considering age. Ringwear is minimal; no splits, but edges do show some cracking to the paper, and the top rail has been struck with an object which has punched a split-like hole of about 1” in length into the cardboard along the edge. Reverse has some soiling and foxing; very readable wording, photographs of other albums by Diddley.
Record—VG+ (visually) minimal and superficial scuffs and scratching. Label very clean. The record appears to have seen very good treatment and/or minimal play--since 1963.
