BO STREET RUNNERS
'BO STREET RUNNER / SHAME SHAME SHAME b/w LOVE TO YOU / LONELY AVENUE'
on the original OAK RECORDS 45-RGJ 131 from 1964 vintage.
One of THE most collectible of the rare limited OAK pressings, this was given away at a couple of Bo Street Runners gigs in 1964, with a couple retained for the band, pals and family. Based on this private pressing, they took a step forward by performing 'Bo Street Runner' in a Ready Steady Go contest 'Ready Steady - Win!, winning top prize and a recording contract with DECCA. This was instigated by the singer's mother, who sent this EP to the show's producers.
Musically this has a real naivety and punchy raw enthusiasm to it - and ranks alongside the Downliners Sect 'Nite At Great Newport Street' EP (but of course it's way rarer!).
Of the mere 99 copies pressed - how many got trashed or lost back then?? It's only since around 1970 that people started looking after and collecting vinyl at all, and most equipment that the kids played stuff on in 1964 included such horrific things as 78 needles! So, the best that can be hoped for nice landmark pieces like this is that they got put away in storage somewhere and never touched.
Imagine though, the years when this gem was made, of sweaty clubs and pubs with Rhythm and Blues resounding off the walls, mod posturing and dances, beatniks and hopeful bands doing the rounds of working mens' clubs and back halls, cellars and makeshift dance nights.
You had to have been there to really appreciate that time, but that window into then - is right here before you now!

This is a rare collectible, especially in this condition, and on this lovely ORIGINAL copy.
The vinyl is respectable VG++ overall, plays well and visually very nice also. Good shine, with a few marks but nothing to spoil the quality sounds in these vintage grooves.
Lables as you see are bright and clean, with initials on both sides 'CP'.
