Description
BOB DYLAN FREEWHEELIN’ US EXPORT STEREO, 4 UNRELEASED TRACKS LISTED.
What to make of this? I have found no copies that have sold, and it was not listed on Discogs until I put it on. A U.S. copy of the LP sold for $150,000 dollars a few years ago - but that had the four missing tracks on the record - WHICH THIS DOES NOT. There are a few Canadian first pressings which also list the four tracks on the sleeve, but not on the label (and the titles of the Canadian tracks are the same as here, but slightly different to the US titles.
So, with much helpful input from eBayers, I know know a lot more
- there is at least one other identical copy, which sold on eBay 10 years ago. It also came from UK
- the excellent website, Freewheelin' 1963 (searchingforagem.com) states this is a Singapore/ Malaysia pressing, on balance unauthorised (I am querying both conclusions, because both copies so far have turned up in UK (see further comments below as well,re stereo copies and the ownership of the Columbia trade mark)
- it isn’t hugely valuable, but it is unusual.
- so I have revised the listing - but I can’t move to an auction. I have put a buy now price, but I have also set a lower figure for offers. I have now also included postage charges - with international charges based on tracked service to mainland US.
The four tracks are
SOLID ROAD (ROCKS & GRAVEL IN US)
LET ME DIE IN MY FOOTSTEPS
GAMBLIN’ WILLIE
TALKING JOHN BIRCH SOCIETY BLUES (CBS Legal Squeamishness about this track seems to have been the prompt for Dylan to re-enter the studio at the last minute and record not 1, but 4 completely new tracks - see sleeve pictures for details)
The record itself is unusual. It is not a U.S Columbia issue, but has a ‘3-eye’ CBS Label - as Columbia was an EMI imprint, US Columbia we’re not sold here- but it is record pressed in the US, with a standard US cover. Why? Because, it seems, stereo copies were not initially pressed in the UK. They were only available on special order - as imports.
Matrix numbers are hand etched, XSM 58719 and XSM 58720 - consistent with other copy and website Searchingforagem.com
It took a lot of research to find out what I have done - so I hope I have it right. THIS HAS EVERY SIGN OF BEING A GENUINE MAY 1963 RELEASE, NOT A FAKE.
So, the record itself - it has clearly been played, but looked after. An ultrasonic clean would do it good. There are marks, lines and scuffs but no feelable scratches, and it plays very happily with no jumps or skips. There is some slight background noise in places, but nothing intrusive. 60 years on, it is a good solid copy, which I would rate VG. Likewise the hard card sleeve - solid, legible, with no writing or stickers, a bit grubby. There are some rub marks, but no ringwear or splits - pretty good for any kind of US sleeve.
The inner sleeve is clear plastic. Old - but I don’t know if this is original.

This will be sent properly packed and insured. There are countries I will not ship to outside EU/US/Japan - including Russia, Byelorus, Ukraine (sorry guys), and some others in the Middle East, South America and Asia. If you are uncertain whether this applies to you, please contact me directly.
Many thanks to all for information and interest.
