Bob Dylan : Nashville Skyline A2/B1 1st Press

This first pressing is from the collection that I purchased recently that has been so well preserved down the years.  Such is their quality there is no need to describe each track in detail as I generally do.  However, I will still listen to every track in full so as to provide a 'correct' grading and will state any imperfections even if minor.

This album plays to a superb standard with barely any interference, just a couple of light clicks on S2.  The clarity on both sides is very impressive and the vast majority is 'as new'.  The vinyl is visually stunning and the cover is also in superb condition and is again almost 'as new'.  Never seen better!

The S1 label has the incorrect 'Girl Of The...' rather than 'Girl From the...' which is on the cover.  The gold stereo label can be seen on the back covern with only minor wear.

Play grading

The acoustic intro on 'Girl From The North Country' plays with stunning precision and Dylan's first vocal is again so 'clear' with only a couple of mega light ticks.  Cash's first vocal plays perfectly as does the rest of the track.  The clarity and definition of the audio has lost none of its quality over the intervening years and is Mint- without a doubt.  'Nashville Skyline Rag' also plays with incredible clarity - this record can't be nearly 52 years old!  This is Mint every day of the week!  'To Be Alone With You' is faultless and 'I Threw It All Away' has just a little distortion on the vocal every now and then.  It is only minor and hardly intrudes on the quality of the listen.  'Peggy Day' ends the side with wonderful clarity and depth - just one light tick towards the end and a very minimal amount of inner groove distortion on this final section.

The classic 'Lay Lady Lay' plays nigh on perfectly with just one very light click near the middle section.  Apart from that it could hardly play with any greater clarity.  There is just a touch of vocal distortion on 'One More Night' but in my opinion this is not intrusive as it is so minor, Near Mint I would say.  'Tell Me That It Isn't True' and 'Country Pie' play with stunning precision and 'Tonight I'll Be Staying...' is almost as good with just one click on the intro.  No other interference.  A fine album overall that plays with hardly any interference and there is no underlying static which is a rarity.

Visual grading

The vinyl is in beautiful condition with no marks or scratches and still has an immaculate jet black glossy sheen.  I could only find a couple of very faint hairlines and even they are difficult to locate!  There is some spindle wear on the rough textured labels but this is another record that has obviously been so carefully handled down the years.  A stunning version.

The Cover & Inner

The laminated cover (with the gold stereo sticker on the back) is in superb condition with no obvious wear.  The edges and spine are perfect and incredibly there is no corner wear either.  The opening edge has only very minimal handling wear and the front and back cover are pristine with no marking.  The back has one very faint crease in the lower right corner but it is very faint and hardly worth a mention!  The original plain white die-cut 'Patent No 1,125,555 - Made In England' inner is in excellent shape with no side splits or tears, just some light creasing and a small number of faint age related 'spots'.

Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers

The records have been cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine

I grade according to "Record Collector" guidelines.
