This album would still be four stars to me without the last track, just so you know. A bunch of interesting musical ideas are presented here, tied together with uniquely smooth CTI production. The intense "Valley of the Shadows" (James taking note of Herbie's Mwandishi stuff?), a Pachelbel canon, Soulero with those elegiac marching drums, European folk sounding melodies, strings and all; an incredible jazz-funk arrangement of "Night on Bald Mountain", a Roberta Flack/Gene McDaniels cover (the second cover of "Feel Like Making Love" I've heard this week), and of course: the hypnotic sample leviathan "Nautilus", which any serious music scholar will tell you is the greatest thing ever recorded.
