IL MATTINO / TOCCATA ... 7-inch, 45rpm single by BOB MICHAELS & THE NEW CLASSICAL MUSICOLOGISTS. Original Italian pressing on the VARIETY label (FNP 10157), from 1970. Super-obscure and still practically unknown Italian prog rarity. Top of the top psychedelic rock featuring Bob Michaels on hammond organ with un-credited Italian session men. Punishing beats and breaks throughout both sides. The funky drummer / raw basslines / acidic guitars and fuzz distortions on this recording are incredible. Absolutely, the funkiest underground rock versions of the gothic classical anthems with hard and brutal playing. A mini progressive masterpiece. For our soundclip, we have recorded some breaks from IL MATTINO and TOCCATA followed by both themes in their entirety. Great for DJs. Booming production sound. Bob Michaels was English and ended up in Milan sometime in 1967 whilst fronting legendary UK mod group, Dave Anthony's Moods (the Bob Downes / Fleur De Lys / Sharon Tandy / Mark Leeman Five related progressive R&B group from Bournemouth). Not much is known about what actually happened during the 'lost' period of his life in Italy but we do know he also recorded an equally mythical Lp after splitting with Dave Anthony's Moods in 1969. Our single features the very best themes from this Lp. One of the most coveted Italian singles for the few collectors who know it. Bob also wrote the lyrics for the debut Circus 2000 Lp too. Bizarre, psychedelic collage artwork sleeve. Very rare 45!!!
Our record grading: SEALED / M- / VG++ / VG+ / VG
Vinyl is in VG++ condition overall with some light scuffs and hairlines. Light surface noises / a few pops in places. Cloudy vinyl but common for this label. Booming production sound. The psychedelic picture sleeve is in VG++ condition overall with light general wear. Ring creasing and ring dirt marks from storage. Natural age discoloration and fading. Some light edge and corner wear. Very rare 45!!!
