BOB SEGER COMMERCIAL DEBUT! THE BEACH BUMS "THE BALLAD OF THE YELLOW BERET b/w FLORIDA TIME" 45 RPM SINGLE!!!! ULTRA-RARE!!!!!!
Here we have a 7" 45 RPM single recorded by DOUG BROWN & THE OMENS under the alternate name "THE BEACH BUMS", featuring vocals (lead on "Ballad Of The Yellow Beret", backing on "Florida Time") by a young BOB SEGER! This is Seger's first commercially released appearance on record (there was an acetate of his band The Decibels prior to this release). Released on ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Records of Detroit, MI (catalog #: H-1010), copyright date 1966. Runout grooves read: "ZTSC107668-2A"/"ZTSC107669-2A" . This single was recalled when Sgt. Barry Sadler (the man behind "The Ballad Of The Green Beret") threatened a lawsuit for the group's parody of his song, even though the song was (as Seger puts it in the intro) "a protest against protesters". This fact, of course, makes the record even MORE rare!

Sadly, the disc has seen better days: as the photos indicate, there is substantial label wear, plus some faded writing on the "Florida Time" side. The vinyl is overall in G/G+ condition... there are definite marks on the record, although (as you can hear by clicking on the links below), it still plays fine, with no skips. Despite the could-be-better condition, this is an extremely rare item, and a must for the Seger completist, fans of novelty records, or just rare rock and roll fans!   "Florida Time" (mp3)!
