This 45, pressed on a small Los Angeles label, doesn't show up very often. It was Gentry's first recording. She had been performing in Las Vegas around that time. Jody Reynolds had a big hit with the rock 'n' roll market in 1958, one of the best 'tragedy' songs on the genre, in 1958 with Endless Sleep, a slow, moody, somewhat spooky piece with a lot of echo and reverb. Later, he moved over to the country genre but not Nashville.
On this excellent two-sider, Gentry takes the lead on Stranger in the Mirror with Reynolds strictly singing background harmonies. Requiem for Love is more of a duet with the duo trading leads. Both are mid-tempo and more in the folk-rock vein with unusually early elements of psychedelia. A fine two sider and Bobbie Gentry proves that her voice is outstanding. Both songs were written by Jody Reynolds, who died in the last decade and is a member of the Rockabilly Hall of Fame.

URGENT NOTICE TO INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS - NEW SHIPPING RATES
As of January 27, 2013, the US Post Office has substantially increased postage costs for international packages. Please do not pay when receiving the eBay invoice. My invoice will be less because I print postage at home - but the increase is still substantial. Actual postage to ship 1 45 is $11.48 and, since I use the calculated method - which add the cost of my supplies - the total shipping cost for one 45 will be $12.98. The good news is that the cost will not increase when I ship 2 or 3 45's in the same package and additional 45's will only increase the shipping cost a relatively small amount. So if you are an overseas buyer, you will save a lot if you buy more than one 45 at a time.
The increased costs also apply to LP's but the percentage increase is much less. Also, shipping costs for U.S. buyers have only increased slightly.
Again, please wait for my invoice or request an invoice from me when you are finished with your bids or purchases. It will be less than the invoice that eBay automatically sends you.
I appreciate your understanding. Please do not leave me a low buyer satisfaction rating for shipping costs as that would hurt my standing on eBay. I actually lose money on shipping because both eBay and paypal take out fees for the amount you pay for postage. Thank you, Becky.

A NOTE ABOUT SHIPPING..
Ebay has recently enacted new terms which are designed to encourage sellers to offer free domestic shipping on their listings. I'm sure they have their reasons for doing this. Since nothing is truly "free", especially the cost of shipping, ebay is recommending it's sellers roll the shipping cost into the price of the product. I've never been a huge fan of this tactic so I won't be doing it. I also have a solid amount of overseas customers who would not be receiving this "free" shipping and therefor would be getting the short end of it if I raised my prices to compensate for the possibility that a domestic client might buy the item. Why do I mention this? As more sellers conform to ebay's urgings those of us that do not will start to look like we are overcharging for shipping. Even a modest shipping charge, when compared to "free", will seem exorbitant. This will likely start to affect our Detailed Seller Ratings for shipping and handling charges. Low DSR scores can have a serious impact on sellers. Ebay offers discounts for the best DSR ratings and a few low scores can litterally cost a considerable sum of money in discounts lost. So if you are buying from me please consider, I do not make money on my shipping costs, there is no handling fee. I try and keep the shipping fees as close to the cost of actual postage plus the cost of packing materials - LP mailers cost nearly $1 apiece - and often end up losing a few cents in the transaction. My reputation, feedback and DSR scores are very important to me and my business.
