Description

Juan Arcocha & Leslie MacKenzie, et.al., dba Can Am Des Puig: "The Book Of AM" 1978, France/Disques Labo Lab 1016. Disc is in beautiful EX to M- shape, I doubt it could be upgraded! Laminated gatefold cover shows some very minor yellowing, a few small creases, no way to upgrade this either, it's EX to M-. Monster rare LP by a folk collective with multinational members who were based in the Balearic Islands off the coast of Spain through the 1970s. Through a chance connection with Daevid Allen of Gong, they acquired a reel-to-reel recorder, painstakingly put together this amazing record, and managed to get a handful pressed in France. After you've digested all of THAT, just let me tell you that this one is very special. If you could imagine a flipped-out bunch along the lines of Smash, or maybe Pan & Regaliz taking their girlfriends (who happened to sing like angels) to Ibiza, baking in the sun by day and recording ethereal acoustic music on the beach at night, you might be halfway there. This stuff really soars, it's very inspired. Vocals are in English and thankfully the lyrics are printed inside the gatefold because you'd never sort out what they're singing under those thick accents. What their mindset was is hard to pin down, though. It's druggy, it's beautiful, it's pagan, it's very pretty but still manages to be spooky, which is not an easy thing to pull off. In his book Scented Gardens Of The Mind Dag Erik Asbjornsen describes the sound like this: "...an attractive journey into the more mystical realms of hippie folk. Somewhere between Robin Williamson, Daevid Allen and some tracks by the German group Popol Vuh. Many songs have a strong Eastern touch with tamboura, acoustic guitar, flute and male/female vocals. This album will satisfy any ardent fan of psych-folk!". You don't have any other records in your collection that will take you on this trip, I can guarantee that.  This album is never-see-another-copy-in-a-thousand-years rare, too.
