Recorded at just nineteen, Brazilian songwriter Lo Borges's debut remains one of the most striking artefacts of 70s MPB. Written in a burst of energy while still working on Clube da Esquina, it captures a restless and adolescent brilliance with its short and luminous songs that dart between psych-rock haze and open-air saudade. Tracks like 'Voce Fica Melhor Assim' and 'Aos Baroes' move with a jangly looseness that feels both improvised and deeply melodic, whilst 'Nao Se Apague Esta Noite' shows Borges already mastering bittersweet understatement. The whole record plays like sketches from a vivid dream, and each idea fleeting but fully formed. Its cult endurance makes sense: few albums sound so alive to possibility, the sneakers on its cover hinting at a journey still unfolding.
