Firstly, please note that the cover sports some mistakes! This show was not recorded in Stockholm in 1979, but in Gothenburg in 1978 apparantly! "Sense Of Doubt" is not listed on the cover at all and "Warszawa" is listed as "Secret Life Of arabia"!

Countless Bowie bootlegs flooded the underground market in the '70s and the sound quality varied considerably. Some had lousy sound quality as, back then, it wasn't uncommon for bootleggers to put out a live recording that had been made using a mono home recorder but others were stereo soundboard recordings that actually sounded good. Decent stereo sound is heard on Live in Stockholm '79, a two-LP bootleg that was put out by the German DCR label. The concert was recorded during a 1978/9 tour of Europe and Bowie was in the middle of what has been called his Brian Eno Period (an experimental, rewarding period that found him using a lot of electronic instruments and working with producer Eno on his albums Low, Heroes and Lodger). Bowie offers a lot of songs from the Eno Period including "Be My Wife," "Blackout," "Beauty and the Beast," "Breaking Glass," "Speed of Life" and "Heroes" although "TVC 15", "Rebel Rebel" and "Stay" are strangely omitted. He does provide the funky "Fame" (this set's only song from Young Americans) and early '70s favorites like "Hang on to Yourself," "Suffragette City," "Jean Genie," "Ziggy Stardust" and "Soul Love." Another highlight of this bootleg is a cover of the Doors' eerie "Alabama Song (Whiskey Bar)" which works perfectly for Bowie. When Live in Stockholm '79 was circulated in the U.S. in 1979 and the early '80s, it generally sold for around $10. But if a rare copy happened to surface at a vinyl convention these days, chances are it would sell for a lot more!

The vinyl (both platters) are in excellent condition for their age having been housed in plastic-lined sleeves with certainly no scratches and an absolute minimum of surface marks and it plays fine. The cover has seperated all along the top edge (but I've resisted taping it up) and overall it does have some light scuffing conducive with its age (30 years old!!!!) but nothing to get too steamed up about. 

Ludicrously I've seen some shops list this for up to £100 (ridiculous! and at the moment none actually have a copy ion stock!!!) but my starting bid is much more realistic and offers someone the chance to snap this up at a bargain price! Yeah, you can probably download this from some manky site but this is the original vinyl - first-time round stuff and its vinyl what counts ain't it?!!!
