This is a unique, invaluable, out-of-print and probably never to be repeated guide for which eye-watering prices are asked by booksellers. It originally came out in a very small print run in 1987 then 2 years later an equally small print run was issued with an additional 72 page supplement of extra information that had not been included in the first book. It is this 1989 version that most collectors want.
I bought this book new when it first came out but found that I was more interested in listening to my 78’s than researching the facts about them. As a result this book has hardly ever been opened.
It is hardcover, ISBN 0902470221, size approx 8.5 inches x 6 inches and 3 inches thick (215 mm x 150 mm x 76 mm thick), and runs to 1462 pages. It was first published in 1987. This edition has been reprinted with the supplement containing additions and corrections, 1989, by General Gramophone Publications Ltd.
The dust jacket has no tears or folds and is in as new condition. The binding underneath the dust jacket is unmarked. On the spine, one or two minor folds give an indication that the book has been opened for reference very occasionally. No names or anything else have been handwritten in the book and no library stickers attached anywhere. All the pages are undamaged, however, because very thin paper was used to pack 1390 pages plus an additional 72 pages in the supplement into one volume, the pages are somewhat age-toned. I hope the photos give a good indication of the excellence of the overall condition of this book.
