Description

This is a SUPER RARE INDEPENDENT LABEL LATIN LP from a group called Brooklyn Sounds, formerly known as La Orchestra Tropical. It is a stereo Salsa label LP, a division of Mary Lou Records, catalog number 2001. Label also states that this LP is 'A Bobby Marin Product'. It is a bit difficult to tell exactly when this record was made, as there is no date listed anyplace on the cover or the labels; just looking at the hair styles and the styles of clothing worn by the band members, my guess would be the early 1970s, but I could be wrong, could be earlier or a bit later. Here is what the liner notes, written by Charlie Rosario, say about Brooklyn Sounds: "Want to hear some good B.S.? First of all, B.S. stands for Brooklyn Sounds. That's the name that was finally chosen for that young, talented, vibrating latin band known as 'La Orchestra Tropical'. Second, it is the beautiful musical effect achieved by the cats in the band when expressing the everyday sounds they live. Cars and buses blowing their horns, those fast passing hours from midnight to morn. Children playing, laughing, crying; people swinging and others singing. Third - Brooklyn Sounds is all the soul rising high above the rooftops and exploding like 'snap, crackle, pop', making your blood boil from tip to top. So just give this band a chance to put you in a trance of a pulsating dance, and you will agree, just like me, that it is the best B.S. you will ever let your clever ear hear!" The personnel in the band are listed on the back cover, but the names and the instruments that each member plays are scattered among their pictures in such a way that it is very difficult to place which member plays which instrument, so I will just list the names of the band members - music is composed and arranged by Tony Ortega and Julio Millan; other members are Kelvin Fonseca, Alfredo Burgos, Bob Grivelle, Leo Rosado, Julio Fonseca, Bobby Marin, Eddie Rodriguez, Willie Rodriguez, and Jose Costioso. Tracks: Sueltame Ya, Mirame San Miguel, La-Va-Eh, Rain, Guaguanco De Puerto Rico, Perdicion, Tolon, En Las Tumbas. Condition of record, which is pressed on very thick, rigid vinyl, is conservatively a real nice VG++ with just three or four very small surface marks on one side only, none of which can be felt and none of which affect play; other side is a SOLID NM with no visible surface marks. Condition of cover is also on the nice side of VG+/VG++ with the only real flaws being a 1-1/2" split in the top edge at the open end - I have carefully and neatly repaired this split by taping from the inside. There is also the 1/2" beginning of a split in the lower edge at the open end and a little wear along the spine. Cover looks real nice with no wear to speak of on either the front or back, and no writing, tears, or stickers. A super-rare small label addition to your Latin record collection!
