Description
A VERY EARLY U.S., First pressing of Bruce Springsteen – Born to Run, Columbia PC 33795, pressed at Columbia’s Pitman, New Jersey plant!
- Side 1: P AL-33795-1A MCR I
- Side 2: P BL-33795-1A MCR
The overall condition is NEAR MINT!
Please note the pix of the LABELS and notice the SPINDLE HOLES in particular as they still have VINYL FLECKS on and around them!
Also, in return, THERE ARE ABSOLUTELY NO SPINDLE TRAILS on either side!
I absolutely have no reason to believe that this album has ever been played!
Original, but slightly yellowed, PLAIN WHITE INNER SLEEVE. Since I’ve owned it’s been replaced with a rice sleeve and housed in its own cardboard sleeve!
COVER is in VG++/NM. When opening the crease in still stiff! Only, one very slight corner!
The COVER does have the PROMO CUTOUT!
The BACK COVER has the incorrect JON SPELLING!
There is a small Roman numeral “I” after RCM on Side #1. This is yet another signature associated with this EARLY WLP pressing.
- Side 1: P AL-33795-1A MCR
- Side 2: P BL-33795-1A MCR
- Catalog number: Columbia PC 33795
- Columbia Records, PITMAN, New Jersey
- MCR: Lacquers cut at Master Cutting Room, representing the original mastering associated with GREG CALBI.
- 1A/1A: Both sides use the earliest lacquer/stamper allocation supplied to Pitman. Particularly desirable to collectors.
- PROMOTIONAL CUT CORNER
The copy appears to be an exceptionally early and unusually well-preserved, 1975 White-Label Promotional pressing—more significant than just an ordinary 1A/1A first pressing.
THE COMBINATION IS ESPECIALLY NOTEWORTHY:
- White Columbia promotional labels
- PAL-33795-1A / PBL-33795-1A
- Original “MCR” MASTERING
- DJ timing strip on the front
- UNPLAYED vinyl with untouched spindle holes
I strongly believe this LP has never been played previous to me owing it. I’ve owned it for 45+ years and have never played it. I used COMMERICAL PRESSING with a strong Martix#.
Please look at the pictures of the labels and around the spindle hole, completely clean labels and the presence of vinyl flecks, no sleeve rubs strongly supports an unplayed archive copy. Nevertheless, I generally grade an opened record Near Mint, while describing it as “apparently unplayed”; I do not assign it Mint!
DO NOT remove the vinyl flecks or play the record if preserving its unplayed status matters!
My cover is not the first-state “John Landau” error cover. It is a later, corrected jacket on which “Jon Landau” was printed correctly at the factory, so no correction sticker was ever required.
THE COPY IS THEREFORE:
- Original 1975 Columbia White-Label Promotional LP.
- Corrected JON LANDAU gatefold.
- UNTOCHED BRIGHT-WHITE DJ timing strip.
- Factory promotional cut corner.
- Early 1A/1A MCR mastering.
- Apparently unplayed, likely NEAR MINT.
The 1A/1A record is earlier than the corrected jacket configuration generally documented with timing strips, so it remains a desirable and potentially uncommon production-overlap copy
That resolves it completely. The runouts match the documented 1975 Columbia Pitman White-Label Promotional pressing:
- Side 1: P AL-33795-1A MCR I
- Side 2: P BL-33795-1A MCR
- MCR I: Master Cutting Room marking; the final character is generally interpreted as a small Roman numeral I
- 1A/1A: Earliest lacquer/stamper allocation for Columbia’s Pitman plant
- Jacket: Factory-printed “JON LANDAU”, DJ TIMING STRIP and PROMOTIONAL CUT CORNER!
