Description

This great item is the vintage classical vinyl record 'Mendelssohn and Bruch Violin Concertos' performed by Ruggiero Ricci and the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Pierino Gamba. It was released on the Decca label with the catalogue number SXL 2006 and with the sought-after 'Wide Band' label it is an original pressing dating from the Fifties. It is in, as can be seen, fantastic condition, looking as if carefully and rarely played and well stored. For a detailed description:

  • Sleeve - bright and glossy with very little wear. Some light lifting/bubbling of the Clarifoil laminate by the front spine.
  • Record - visually inspected under a bright light i can see nothing - scratches or marks - that would affect the playing or sound quality.
Overall, this is a fifty year-old record in exceptional condition. As can be seen from my feedback - a rating of 4.9 on 'Item Description' - I take time to carefully and accurately describe items, listing any possible faults and generally get it right. While I cannot possibly be an expert on all the items I sell, I have thirty-five years experience buying and selling vinyl records so it's an area about which I have some knowledge - trust the description and buy with confidence. I have also, of course, considerable experience of packing records carefully and securely for sending worldwide - it will arrive in the same great condition in which it leaves me.

"As couplings go this is the most famous you can find. But with Pierino Gamba on the rostrum – childhood prodigy conductor – and the combustible, galvanizing figure of Ruggiero Ricci as soloist it’s a safe bet that the recording won’t be a safe bet. And so it proves. If you want elevated, sweet toned raffine playing in the Mendelssohn, if your preference is for romanticism but not ever emoted expressivity in the Bruch; if, in short, you enjoy well equalized and discreet musicality then Ricci is not the violinist for you. If, on the other hand, you enjoy personalized playing, an exceptional technique, some succulent and big sounds and the antithesis of impersonal and blandly monochrome disengagement then maybe Ricci is for you after all."

In fantastic condition, and with the superior sound quality of a sturdy, deeply-cut vintage pressing, this would be a splendid addition to any collection of vintage classical records.
