BUD POWELL "The Amazing Bud Powell, Vol. 1" Blue Note 1503, DG, P, RVG, Laminated, Mono Vinyl
This is the first edition, 1955, "RVG"-etched, Deep Groove, Laminated Frame Cover, Flat Rim, "P"-pressing of BUD POWELL's "The Amazing Bud Powell Vol. 1" on the "767 Lexington Ave" labels of Blue Note BLP 1503. Musicians include Bud Powell – piano, Curly Russell – bass, Max Roach – drums, Fats Navarro – trumpet, Sonny Rollins – tenor sax, Tommy Potter – bass, Roy Haynes – drums.
VINYL plays beautifully. Side 1 has occasional ticks and pops, but instruments are clean, powerful, full of tone and very dynamic. Side 2 has some consistent low level surface noise. Side 2 brief repeating tick first track which disappears. Rest of Side 2 largely quiet. No Skips. No Distortion. No Groovewear. Instruments are very clear, clean, dynamic. Very good vinyl gloss. A couple hairline marks, none feelable. No warps. Solid gloss both sides. The "767 Lexington Ave" labels are very clean with minor spindle wear. See photos.
The LAMINATED FRAME COVER is in very good condition, with worn corners. Top seam solid with some ink missing. Spine split 1" at top and bottom. Bottom seam shows wear and 1" split near opening. "BLUE NOTE RECORDS, 767 Lexington Ave., New York 21" back jacket shows aging and discoloration. Please see photos.
This LP was play-tested on a high-end system consisting of Music Hall MMF-7.3 turntable/Ortofon Bronze cartridge, Heed Audio Elixir integrated amplifier, Heed Quasar Phono stage and Quad S2 speakers (with very revealing ribbon tweeters).
