Description
Budgie : Bandolier A1 / B1 1st Press
This first pressing on the MCA label plays to a 'high end' standard with no interference at all. The clarity and depth of the audio is stunning and there are no clicks or pops and only a small number of non-intrusive ticks, they really are very minor. This record has been played but has been so well preserved down the years and has a stunning visual look also.
The cover does have some wear but this is mainly limited to the edges but it's the vinyl that is the real star. The original inner remains in great condition.

Visual grading
The vinyl is in lovely condition and still has a very healthy glossy sheen. There are no marks or scratches and only a few very faint sleeve removal hairlines. A superb looking vinyl basically! Some spindle wear but not an excessive amount and the run out grooves are immaculate.
Play grading
'Breaking All The House Rules' plays with great clarity and power from the very first groove and continues in exactly the same way. There are no clicks or pops, no underlying static and certainly no crackle. It is as close to a perfect start as is possible - I heard only a couple of very light static ticks during the entire 7+ minutes. The playback is so strong and in typical Budgie style it has that deep, rich and bass heavy sound. I should perhaps say Mint but I will grade as Mint- it truly is a stunning start to the album.
'Slipaway' plays with very impressive clarity when you consider how quiet it is. There are only a small number of minor ticks but they are of course totally non-intrusive and scarcely worth a mention. The long fade out also plays perfectly. Near Mint+ is easily deserved here.
The very quiet intro on 'Who Do You Want For Your Love' plays with near perfect clarity, just a couple of minor static ticks, and as the vocal begins the audio is faultless. From then on there is much to admire - no interference and such strong audio definition. There is just a minimal touch of barely audible static in a couple of sections but it is so minimal and I do sit extremely close to the speakers so I'm sure would be missed by a general listen. A stunning version that ends the side with Near Mint+ audio.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
So often vinyls from this era have some 'background' on the opening grooves but that is certainly not the case here. The intro on 'I Can't See My Feelings' is stunning with only a couple of dust ticks and as Shelley's vocal comes in there is no decrease in quality. There is a minor touch of static in the first quiet bass section and thereafter plays with superb depth and power. There is no 'background' aside from one light tick (not a click!) and is a Near Mint+ start to S2.
'I Ain't No Mountain' is 'as new' from beginning to end with no interference at all. A superb Mint version.
The classic 'Napoleon Bona-Part One / Two' plays beautifully on the quiet intro with only a couple of minor ticks which is pretty impressive when you consider how long it is! The clarity is stunning and once that classic riff comes in the sonic quality is superb and you can turn this up to 'loud' without fear of distortion! The more you play it the more you are impressed by the stunning playback there is just nothing to fault. Bourge has so much going on here and yet each section plays with great power and depth. A fantastic track and worthy of a Mint- grade for sure.
In summary you can hardly fault this genuine first pressing as the sonic quality on both sides really is stunning! Yes it has been played a few times but there is no loss in quality and it has obviously been very well looked after down the years. Any budgie collector would be hugely impressed by the audio on offer here! Not one click or pop and only a very small number of inconsequential light ticks.
The Cover
The only issue with the G & L cover is that it does have some rubbing on the edges but apart from that it is in excellent condition with no marking on the front or back. The corners have only minimal wear although the spine does have a fair amount of rubbing. The opening edge has only minimal handling wear. The front cover does have one crease in the lower left corner although not immediately obvious and a small amount of minor creases around the edges and the back cover is the same. Not a perfect cover but by no means a bad one :-)
The Inner Sleeve
The original EMI inner is in excellent order with no side splits, no marking and only minimal creasing.
The Labels
The MCA 'rainbow' labels are very clean with no marking or writing, just some spindle wear as stated which can only be seen inside the inner ring.
