Budgie : If I Were Brittania I'd Waive The Rules 1st Press A2 / B2 1st Press 1975

This first pressing on the A&M label is of a standard so rarely found today.  Much like the other Budgie albums I am selling this has no interference and the clarity could not be any better.  It is a FINAL UPGRADE first press of that I have no doubt.

The cover is in excellent condition overall but with some wear on the spine.  A genuine first press has 'Britannia' incorrectly spelt as 'Brittania' on both the front cover and on the tracklisting on the back.

This vinyl is in perfect condition, no exaggeration.  It has an amazing visual quality with no marks, hairlines or scratches with no spindle wear either.  The run out grooves and labels are also super clean.  A stunning example that is now 44 years old.

Play grading  

There is no need to describe each track in detail on S1 as they all play to the same immaculate standard.  From 'Anne Neggen' to 'Quacktors And Bureaucats' the clarity and definition of the audio could not be any more impressive and even the quieter sections play with stunning precision.  No short cuts here - I have listened to every track in full so as to provide a 'complete' grading and there are no clicks, pops, static or crackle - no 'background' at all basically.  This side is Mint from start to finish which is not surprising when you consider how visually stunning the vinyl is.  It has maybe never been played, once or twice at most.

S2 is of the same 'high end' standard aside from one faint tick on 'Sky High Percentage' the first track on the side.  The super quiet acoustic intro on 'Heaven Knows Our Name' shows off the incredible clarity on offer here, there is just no 'background' and the remainder is just as good.  Again the 'bell toll' intro on 'Black Velvet Stallion' is 'as new' and continues in exactly the same way.  Throughout its entire eight minutes there is literally no interference.  A Mint end to the album for certain.

In summary this FINAL UPGRADE first pressing is 'as new' I am delighted to say.  A rare find indeed.  The clarity of the audio is exceptional and as stated it has hardly ever been played, if at all.  Perhaps not classic Budgie but if you want a first pressing with perfect audio then this is the one to own!

The Cover

The Robor cover has a little shelf wear although nothing major.  The edges do have some rubbing and there is a little more on the spine but is still 95% legible I would say.  The opening edge has no handling wear and the corners are also in great shape with very little wear.  The front cover is extremely clean with no marking and the same applies to the back cover.  Basically the only wear on this cover is on the edges and spine.

Inner Sleeve

The original die-cut plain white inner has no side splits or tears and no creasing either which is a rarity.  It just has one very faint 'spot' near the bottom edge, almost perfect!

The Labels

The A&M labels are beautifully clean with no marking or writing and no spindle wear either.

Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers
