A great complete pressing of this classic BUDGIE rarity in stunning condition!

In for the Kill is Budgie's fourth album. It was released in May 1974. It includes a re-recording of the song "Crash Course in Brain Surgery", originally released in 1971 as a single. The song was covered by Metallica for their 1987 EP Garage Days Re-Revisited, while the album's title track was covered by Van Halen during the group's club days.
Hugely undervalued in their day, Budgie are now considered one of the most influential bands of their era, pioneering many sounds and musical styles that numerous major bands went on to copy. With the first five albums now considered absolute classics, 1st pressings of their original albums have become seriously rare and collectable.
In For the Kill is without doubt one of their finest moments.

ALBUM PLAYED FOR GRADING:

Yes – brilliant! - TOP AUDIO

In For The Kill is BUDGIE's four album and has been cited as one of the most influential hard rock albums of all time. It is also a famously sensitive piece of vinyl. Worn copies can have a lot of surface sound even on the many musically complex sections. I am a huge fan of this album, and also highly critical of the audio performance. I just cant stand listening to any pressing that is worn or plays with anything other than great clear sound. And like most Budgie albums, there is a very wide mix of music, stylistically and audio wise, making it near impossible to find original pressings that are not covered in surface noise, pops and clicks.

I am very pleased to say that this rare 1st Stereo pressing plays through with great, very bright un disturbed audio.

This great record plays up to the high visual grading and beyond . It really is a tremendous example. Strong sound free of any loud pops or clicks. It has been very little played, in fact its barely been played at all. The channels are clean and unstressed and there is not even a hint of distortion anywhere on the record. There is barely any occasional static, and that is unbelievably rare. The occasional very light static tic, but nothing prominent or repetitive or really that noticeable. The audio plays through with brilliant strong and clear sound.  This is an ultimate 1st press of this Budgie classic, with stunning clear audio.  I will give a detailed account below:

This great sounding record starts with surprisingly little static in that great intro. By any standards its unbelievably clear. Here the opening bars are just crystal clear. Building up with 'In for The Kill ' this great track starts the record with great audio, just great bright sound. No loud pops or clicks and very clear between tracks. I did notice a couple of light tics, but they are very light. 'Crash Course In Brain Surgery' continuous the high standard, with some light occasional static only, the kind you would find on any vinyl. The track plays with crystal clear sound. No loud pops or clicks.

The delicate 'Wondering What Everyone Knows', often prone to heavy wear, here sounds great. No pops or clicks during the music. Just amazing clear sound. Superb sound from this original pressing, and this is a relatively sparse and quiet track with lots of room for heavy surface sound, - thankfully theres none here.

The massive 'Zoom Club' also sounds great, with superb audio. It plays with great sound, there is some light static in the intro, and a few light static tics, but nothing obtrusive.  This is another quiet track always prone to distortion and loud pops and clicks. None here just truly incredible sound.

A great audio performance, with some light static between tracks, and virtually no static during the tracks: a bit of ultra faint occasional background static only. Super clear sound, no pops of clicks and barely any obvious static as the album progresses.

Side 2. comes in

with near silent run ins, and then the music kicks in with perfect pitch and clarity, as 'Hammer and Tongs' unfolds with its many complex sections. Thee is some light static during the long quiet intro but nothing that obvious. A couple of ultra light static tics and then some very occasional background static during the track, the kind of light static you will find on any piece of vinyl. A couple, of light pops during the middle section, but again nothing loud or that obvious.
The track 'Running From My Soul' plays without a single pop or click throughout. Here the sound is so deep and powerful, and plays with exceptional top vinyl sound! It  really sounds fantastic, with absolutely minimal static and no pops or clicks . In the long quiet intro to 'Living on Your Own', it plays with no distortion, NO hiss, unbelievable clear audio, even during the quietest sections. There are no loud pops or clicks,  and not a hint of distortion anywhere on this great record.

Great clear sound and there is not a hint of distortion anywhere on any tracks of this vinyl.  Amazing. No loud pops or clicks, a bit of very light static only,  this pressing really sounds great, crystal clear audio, and I know it would be very difficult to find an original vinyl that sounds as clean as this.

The record plays with staggering power, great audio with minimal interference to distract from the enjoyment of this great record. There is hardly even any surface or static noise between the tracks. There is the occasional light dust tic, but certainly nothing loud, repetitive or even that obvious.

The music jumps out, with definition and clarity, particularly on the percussion instruments, and vocals, which come through with tremendous power. As is the same with the bass and drums, whilst the guitars come through crisp and clear. On the whole this lp plays with superb, clear bright audio. I have given  a detailed account and l believe I have been unforgiving in pointing out the slightest audio interference on what is a tremendous 1st ever pressing of this rare example. I would easily give an overall audio grading of EXCELLENT to NEAR MINT!

THE RECORD – Visual Grading

A stunning piece of glossy vinyl, this rare 1st press is really thick and chunky, with amazing deep clear grooves. Its only been played a couple of time, and the vinyl hardly fits over the spindle. In bright daylight this record looks completely unmarked and unplayed. When viewed directly under a spot light can a  couple of faint whispy paper handling marks and a few ultra light hairlines can be seen, and they are really light and need to be seen under an intense spotlight. A really wonderful example that has clearly been very little played!   A really great example. Easily grades at EXCELLENT PLUS to NEAR MINT!

THE LABELS

A stunning set of textured labels. In bright daylight these labels looks completely unmarked and unplayed.  Under a spot light only a couple of ultra light spindle traces can be found on side 2. only, and even they are almost impossible to see. These are an great pair of labels, they've barely seen a turntable. A lovely set, they have no spindle wear, and certainly no writing, finer prints or other marks. Grading at NEAR MINT!

VINYL TESTED FOR ANY SIGNS OF WARPING:

Yes, NONE visible what so ever when tested be sight and on a moving turntable.

THE COVER

The Laminated finish covers of  IN FOR THE KILL had a fair chance of survival, but the lamination didn't go right to the edges on the early pressings, so there was still a huge amount of room for serious wear. These covers usually faired pretty badly, with serious ring wear and major scuffs along the edges, the inner, unlaminated gatefold also usually being heavily worn. The Spines are nearly always torn at the ends, worn and scuffed. And they are nearly always heavily rubbed, cracked and other grubby marks. Not this one!

This 1st Stereo press comes with its original cover in simply stunning condition. I would have to say it would be difficult to find a better example. And don't be fooled, these 1st press covers are completely different to all other covers from the UK pressings of IN FOR THE KILL. These covers themselves are rare, and so hard to find with out heavily worn edges, corners and surfaces.

The Cover has absolutely minimal wear to the corners, and virtually no rubbing along the edges, and that is virtually un heard of. The opening edges are very square and totally un frayed, with NO detectable ring wear on either the rear or front cover, again unheard of. The back cover is nice and clean, again with a light impression of the vinyl only. The Spine shows minimal wear only, and shows barely any wear at the edges. Quite unbelievable. There is some slight laminate lift to the bottom of the spine but again its not really that obvious. All round, this is a really amazing example that is largely unmarked.

And, this is an ORIGINAL 1st Press cover. Grades at EXCELLENT PLUS.

THE INNER

Original paper inner sleeve in EXCELLENT condition. No tears, stains, just some light creasing and NO seem splits at all!!!

So hard to find with out heavy wear, graffiti, tears and splitting. A great example.

RARITY

Finding an original Stereo UK pressing of IN FOR THE KILL in great condition is extremely rare indeed. It is an extremely difficult piece of vinyl from the early 1970's to find with great audio.

The cover is almost impossible to find without serious wear, even modestly worn examples are scarce and this is with out doubt one of the best example I've seen. Finding a great cover like this, with a great piece of vinyl,  fantastic!.

An IN FOR THE KILL pressing in this type of condition is scarce. The vinyl is so often played so much, heavily marked, scratched, with noisy, poor and distorted sound. Any 1st press examples with a record in this type of condition, that plays superbly is very rare. An ORIGINAL Stereo press, with ORIGINAL Cover and ORIGINAL inner sleeve, uber rare 1st stampers and 1st Matrix numbers, and all in great condition, with TOP audio makes this very rare indeed!

GREAT COVERS WITH NO SEAM SPLITS, NO TEARS, NO WRITING, NO STICKERS.

GREAT VINYLS WITH NO LOUD CLICKS OR POPS, NO JUMPS OR REPEATS - GUARANTEED!

SCRUPULOUS EXAMINATION and TESTING; PLEASE NOTE:

This record has been play tested on highly sensitive equipment to ensure the sound quality and accuracy of description. I aim to give a precise and concise description of the sound quality, pointing out any defects so that you know what you are buying. I will not go into screeds of information about the nature of the songs, as I imagine that you already know them well. I aim to describe all items as accurately as possible, and offer a full refund on return if for any reason you are not completely happy with the item description.

.

VINYL SOUND - PLEASE NOTE:

The highest quality vinyl with clear sound is rare, and is what I always aim for. I only sell records that play with TOP AUDIO performance, super clear sound uninterrupted by hiss or other interference. Even with the cleanest copies you will find occasional static sound or occasional light tics during playback, caused by a build of dust in the grooves. This is clearly different from the distortion, loud pops, repeating tics or clicks that are found on heavily played and worn pieces of vinyl. Any static build up will reduce when played, and I advise a light clean should be given between plays for optimal performance.

VINYL

Large format art work covers with the original sound and mix unique to vinyl and of the highest quality audio. Vinyl record have always been loved and have become a great investment opportunity, with prices soaring over the last ten years, making classic pieces a great financial as well as a cultural investment.
