·      NOTE: ATCO  used three (3) different catalog numbers for this album: the first number is 33-200, which is found only on original, withdrawn version with “Baby don’t scold me” ; the second number 33-200-A was used on the more common version with “For what it’s worth” instead of “Baby don’t scold me” and the third number: 33-201-A was used on all post-1969 pressings on yellow ATCO label (all of which, of course, have “For what it’s worth”). What we have here is the very first catalog number: 33-200.

·      AN INTERESTING TIDBIT: THE ALBUM STILL HAS A PRIMITIVE MACHINE-PUNCHED (PERFORATED) CASH REGISTER PRICE TAG AFFIXED TO THE SHRINK WRAP ON THE BACK PANEL!  THIS KIND OF PRIMITIVE COMPUTERIZED INVENTORY-TRACKING PRICE TAGS WAS IN USE BETWEEN ROUGHLY 1966 AND 1974 (NOT MANY STORES USED THEM) AND WAS REPLACED BY THE MORE MODERN INVENTORY-TRACKING METHODS IN THE MID-TO-LATE 1970s.  IN THIS CASE, THE RECORD COULD NOT HAVE BEEN PRESSED AFTER 1967, AS ATCO HAD REPLACED THE FIRST PRESSINGS WITH 'BABY DON'T SCOLD ME' WITH THE ONE CONTAINING THE HIT SINGLE 'FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH" BY THE SUMMER OF 1967, WHEN 'FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH' HAD HIT THE BILLBOARD CHARTS.

The band themselves were displeased with this record, feeling that the production did not capture their on-stage energy and excitement. Yet to most ears, this debut sounds pretty great, featuring some of their most melodic and accomplished songwriting and harmonies, delivered with a hard-rocking punch. "For What It's Worth" was the hit single, but there are several other equally stunning treasures. Stephen Stills' "Go and Say Goodbye" was a pioneering country-rock fusion; his "Sit Down I Think I Love You" was the band at their poppiest and most early Beatlesque; and his "Everybody's Wrong" and "Pay the Price" were tough rockers. Although Neil Young has only two lead vocals on the record (Richie Furay sang three other Young compositions), he's already a songwriter of great talent and enigmatic lyricism, particularly on "Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing," "Out of My Mind," and "Flying on the Ground Is Wrong." The entire album bursts with thrilling guitar and vocal interplay, with a bright exuberance that would tone down considerably by their second record.

Classic 60's pre-psych electric folk album, which aged with infinite grace and elegance. A companion to your Byrds and CSNY collection. Finding a still sealed original mono WITHDRAWN copy with "Baby, don't scold me" ?!?! Forget it – not even a HOPE!!! This may be the last one you will ever see.

(b)         The record is believed to come in its original stock inner sleeve.

(c)         The record is  apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)         Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

COVER IS STILL SEALED; HOWEVER, WE ARE UNABLE TO GRADE IT MINT OR NEAR MINT DUE TO MINOR FLAWS LISTED BELOW; WE GRADE THIS COVER AS EXCELLENT OR VG+++

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-       Cover has a partially split bottom seam (less than 1 inch / 2.5 centimeters)

-       Cover shows some light yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging (nothing significant)

-       Front cover has a few yellowish dust speckles scattered in one bottom corner (less than 1 square inch in size)

-       Cover has JUST A HINT of ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 2.

-       Cover has two corners slightly worn / dinged (nothing significant)

-       Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine  (nothing significant)  (VISIBLE ON BACK SIDE ONLY)
