The Story
After Varg Vikernes had left the band Old Funeral, he reactivated his thrash metal project Uruk-Hai. The song was Burzum Vikernes' memories According August 1991, at which time he changed the name of the project from Uruk-Hai in Burzum. The song, he describes himself as the first real Burzum title. Vikernes was originally published the song on the third Burzum album Hvis Lyset Tar Oss, the former recording but rejected due to their poor quality. Instead, it was in March 1993 in Breidablik studio-recorded and released in 1996 on the following album Filosofem, on the Norwegian version, where the song titles are given in Norwegian and English, under the title of Burzum, in the German version, entitled Dunkelheit. From this it also appeared on VHS.
The music video was after Vikernes' rotated instructions he gave in writing from prison. It starts with blurred nature photographs and a rune stone is inscribed with no visible human influence. The video recordings show more runestones and other illustrations provided with runes that frame some of the nature shots or are shown in the foreground. These include (some blurry) shots of the passing clouds, lightning, fire, water, sunsets, cliffs and forests. The video ends with a zoom-in into the light that breaks through the trees. In the book Lords of Chaos, the result is a "despite the lack of action or drama," "denotes amazingly moving."
