If you thought that SONY's 20-bit mastered Compact Disc edition of this album was the best thing since sliced bread - forget it!!! You haven't heard the REAL THING yet. The real thing is this M-O-N-O vinyl copy of this BEAUTIFUL late folk-rock classic from 1966. Just hearing the timeless classic, Pete Seger's "Turn, Turn , Turn" (for whose lyrics he turned to the Old Testament) in its resplendent mono version is in itself worth the price of admission. And that's just the beginning: from the opening chord, to the closing twang, this is one chockfull of ear candies that never stops to amaze and inspire. A contribution of late, great Gene Clark to this album is truly monumental. This is a genuinely fantastic listening experience. This copy is an original 1966 US Columbia pressing of this album (CL-2454). Old Byrd-o-philes already know that Byrds mono albums boast massively different (and sometimes far superior!) mixes from their stereo count! erparts, and I can't even begin to describe the magnitude of the difference

THE WHITE LABEL PROMO, RADIO STATION-, AUDITION OR DEMONSTRATION COPIES AND RELEASES (such as the one we have here) were often distributed to the radio stations before the record was released to the public, sometimes as much as four months ahead. These records are generally considered to be the "first among equals": the VERY FIRST generation and the VERY FIRST pressings of the particular title; a PROTOTYPE and the earliest known official pressing of the record.

(a)            WE GRADE THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial and only moderately visually distracting (nothing significant).For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)            White Promo Label version of this title is much rarer that a regular, commercially released, version of this title. We estimate that stock copies of this album outnumber promo copies by a ratio of at least 300:1.

(c)             Mono pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more preferable to its stereo counterpart. We think that the mix is more natural, humane, "organic" and that the mixes are somewhat different than on the stereo version. We estimate that stereo copies of this album outnumber mono pressings by a ratio of at least 5:1.

(d)            Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 4.

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparently from aging.

-         Cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record), probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

-         Minor shelf wear noted on the seams (nothing significant)

-         Back cover has a few yellowish dust speckles here and there (these tiny spots are not overly obtrusive or distracting)

-         Cover has two corners slightly worn / frayed / bent (nothing significant).

-         No split seams

-         No cut-out (drill) holes.

-         No cut-out corners

-         No saw-marks or indents

-         No writing

-         No stamps

-         No peel-off marks

-         No mold or mildew spots

-         No stickers or labels

-         No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or cuts.

-         No warping

-         No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-         No glue traces or wax residue.

-         No bar codes

-         No RIAA stamps or stickers.
